I now it depends on how determined the predator and the rooster

If they get past your dogs and 'Fort Knox' coop or run, I'm willing to bet said predator is pretty determined, and a rooster probably isn't going to be of much help at the point especially at night where they are mostly blind...

The 'fighting' game bird breeds will generally offer the most aggressive protection, but they are still chickens and no match for most of the predators they will face...

How do you know those stories are true? I've heard a lot of stories as well, but I've seen some of the chicken predators in action and frankly, I'm very skeptical about a lot of the stories I've heard. I'm afraid that too often they are like fisherman's tales about the size of their catches. )
