Who has the bluest eggs?

If you can figure that out, let us know!

Keep in mind that it is VERY difficult to accurately capture egg color in photos. for instance, here's a pic I took of my own eggs:

Now, my araucana eggs ARE bue -- but they're not nearly THAT blue in real life!

OOOooo...I want that impossible color!

Doc, how would araucanas do in **cold** winters...I am at almost 9000' altitude in the Rockies. I've had a few EE/ameraucanas over the years that have done very well.

I've never tried it myself, but I suspect they would do well. They have pea combs, so not much frostbite there. They also ideally have no tails, and they are chunky little buggers -- so they should have good heat retention. Give it a try!

I personally get very blue eggs at the first of the laying season with a few of my Araucanas but for continued intense color of blue eggs my EE's do best.

Like Marans, blue egg color is a matter of genetics from both parents and selecting the best
for improving the color. It can be effected by heat, molt, and duration of laying time.
I would like to think that breeder club members(of which there are quite a few on BYC) of both Ameraucanas and Araucanas
are improving on egg color along with the conformation of bird body types.
It just isnt an easy thing..

I am just south of you in Rifle. My Auracanas have done well in the past. Granted it's not quite as cold here as in Meeker but as close as you'll find I think.
THe Marans have also done well.
