Who here has 5foot fencing or open tops on day runs?

I do and have never had a problem with my chickens getting out. And they can fly! I do have trouble with things getting in though... hawks. A friend of mine here in AK saved me a recycled fishing net from the dump. Wow! It was a great inexpensive way to cover the coop run (about 20x24'), and it went over all the obstacles. The coop's peak is taller than the fence. It just drapes over. I am not fooled thinking it would keep out a more aggressive predator, but it is going to be perfect for the "air-assaults" that I have had.

We are building a coop (almost done) and run, I have seen a setup at a neighbors where she has had success with approx 4 foot tall fencing (open top) surrounded by electric (3 wire) fence. The chickens fly out and free-range during the day and fly over back into the fenced run/coop at night and when predators chase them, usually foxes. Does anyone have a any experience with this type of set up?

I have my coop surrounded by 600' of 4' high electrified poultry net. I have 19 birds, they get out of the coop everyday, and nobody goes over, they stay in.
