Oh man, coffeegirl, that is how it starts! Sudden 101+ fever! All of my little cousins (my cousins' kids) in Portland have had this thing, too. One was so dehydrated, she ended up in the hospital. It is probably the same virus, as when we took our girls to the doctor, he said this was going all around the Portland area now, and it is very easily passed on. I'm sorry sister, but you and the DH may be next

This was the doctor's order for my girls:

give children's motrin every six hours
give children's tylenol every four hours

Start both together. It is the only way to break the fever. You have to keep using them both, and make sure you are giving them enough. The bottle says only 1 tsp for 2 year olds, but he said use 1 1/2 tsp. They would not get over the fevers until we did this, and then the results were within 24 hours, and their fevers broke.

If they throw up medicine, use suppositories.

GOOD LUCK!

I hear ya. I had rotovirus 2 years ago. It was horrible. The difference in this is the pain factor. This is just like cold needles on your skin, but you're burning up with fever. Every joint aches. And the intestinal pain is shocking. What really upsets me, though, is that my three daughters all had to go through this, too! They must have been soooo miserable

All they wanted was for me and my DH to hold them all the time. They were just immobilized by it. Wonderful virus, huh?

It makes me freak out a little about even taking them places, especially in winter. Preschool? Virus. Grocery store? Virus? Restaurant? Virus. Playdate? Virus. And now the zoo! Makes me want to never let them in school full time. What's going to happen then?

The nasty bug I was down with earlier this year was from a kid at playgroup. Parents had doped the kid up with fever reducer and sent her to daycare. I got it, her provider got it(and had to close for three days-no pay for her) And the rest of the kids in her daycare got it and brought it home to their families.
I can tell when my kid is sick. Its the ONLY time she wants to beheld..

Glad the Immodium is ok. Just remember to force the water

ACK! The stomach flu! The WORST sickness on the face of this planet IMO anyhow! I haven't had it for so long because when I hear someone has it I'm OUTTA THERE FAST. OR stay MILES away from the origin of the sickness. lol Anyway once when I did have it...I drank cold water like it was going out of style and within a day I was feeling as good as new

I feel soooo sorry for you. I usually think of the flu as a winter thing. I'm rarely sick (watch out when I am)

and I don't think I've ever had the flu. I'm sending you some of my kick butt resistance right now. (Just touch your keyboard)

Hope everyone get better!

We havent gotten any signs of the flu out here yet but living in Illinois with cold weather, we get slammed repeatly with flu again and again...one time you get all better and in a few days, wham, got sick all over again. On top of that, I had to clorox every surface we touch, doorknobs, toliets, sinks, even car door handles!

DD gets them bad! And yes, those meds of Motrin and Tyenol are the best pain relievers ever!

I gave her tylenol last night and it broke her fever pretty quickly. I think in our case she is dealing with something besides the flu. It's been 24 hours since the fever came, and she's running around almost normally. She's a bit of still, but no barfing or anything. It was her first real fever though, so I was on the computer last night scouring Dr. Sears like a newborn's mama

I had this beast about a month or so ago ...DH shared his.. and it was horrible! I thought it would never end ...the coming forth from both ends, the cramping, the every thing!!

Chicken noodle was my friend ..homemade, of course... and more broth than chicken or noodle.

I sure hope you are on the road to recovery and that the Immodium can lend some relief!

Feel better!

Aneesa, I hear ya. Luckily today, the Immodium is helping A LOT. My energy level is up much more, and the pain part has subsided. Life is easing back to normal, I hope

Coffeegirl, sooooo glad to hear your beautiful girl is doing better, and sooooo glad to hear she doesn't have what we have had. Fevers in toddlers can be scary! I'm happy you are all doing well now.

Ewe, punkin, Peeps, & Mom....

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONCERN
