Who here is into Photography?

Just found this thread! What a bunch of great photos and photographers out there! I am into photography too, though I do not consider myself a professional. I have photographed a wedding, some kids' portraits and someone's garden once AND WAS PAID

So I can't be tooooo bad right? I took a couple darkroom classes in art school (Columbus College of Art and Design) so there's a little bit of formal training there. That said, I now use digital and a hand-me-down camera at that; it's a Konica Minolta DSLR, kind of outdated already but it works. My darkroom is an old copy of Photoshop that I learned to use while working in the graphics department of a trophy-making company. Being trained as a fine artist though, I don't enjoy the technical aspect of photography. It just flows, take a picture, tweak it until it looks right and go with it. Photography talk bores me to tears if it involves numbers of any sort. Nature is my favorite subject, organic shapes and forms in their native environment but I am also fond of capturing candid moments with people too, in a journalistic fashion. Most of my photography can be seen on my DeviantART site. It's not ideal but I started up there about five years ago and it was more trouble than it was worth to switch to a more "upscale" establishment, especially after my kids wiped my hard drive clean. Some of the pictures on that site I no longer have copies of otherwise.

ladyr, nice shots. I'm the same way the technical part I'm not so good at, I have a several year old photoshop elements program (really need to update) that I love, it can take a good shot and make it great or do some cool artsy stuff to the photo. That is horrible about your pics being lost. I have mine on a slave drive all by themselves so even if the computer crashes and burns (so to speak) my pics are safe. (I don't know if slave drive is the proper name I am a techno idiot and am just repeating what my husband calls it)

I wouldn't be afraid to enter it in a contest. It has a good mood or feel, and technically is good. I am not a professional though, and haven't won any contests, so maybe others w/ more experience will respond.

Funky Feathers-

Very cool HDR's #5 and six are by far my favorites.

I have been looking through this thread and there are some wonderful images. I know people dislike numbers and rules but my biggest piece of advice as a begginer is to learn the rule of thirds.

It was the most important thing I Iearned in photography. After that I think my pictures started to become art....... I will try to get some of my images in this thread soon.

Keep on shooting!
