Who here raises Buff and White Africans?

Speaking of grouchy....... grouchherp.

If buff is not recognized, it is not supposed to go higher than BV. This is a rule. Unrecognized varieties cannot place BB. I show an unrecognized variety in another breed, so am pretty familiar with this

But back to the main topic- I've seen some nice ones. Rick and Donna Hare- don't know if they ever showed them, but had (or have, not sure if they still have their pair) a very nice pair of buff africans.

Could you call the Secretary of the APA and correct this issue then? I mean, it's not like he's been around long enough to know anything about the APA...

Do you show Africans?

Thank you ultasol... I talked to two VERY well known Judges whom are also part of the APA and a variety that isnt in the standard that would win anything more would not be eligible for any APA points, So a judge would therefore not pick say a Buff over a Brown... One of my best friends raises Brown Africans and has the best around here if not in the country.

No,. I don't show africans but I do have other varieties of heavy class geese.

I also have spoken with a couple of well respected waterfowl judges regarding accepted vs non-accepted varieties of geese... but not specifically the non-accepted buff africans as I am not interested in them specifically. My waterfowl fix of choice is Dewlap Toulouse in Gray (accepted) and buff.

But, I'm sorry, I should defer to the all knowing herp.

. Oh, and give me the secretary's number and I will gladly call and discuss this with him this weekend. After all, it does impact some of the varieties I show.

After all, I would hate to say the secretary is wrong, and I would hate to say the judges I have spoken with are wrong, without having contact with all parties. I haven't spoken with the secretary, yet.

I am not saying I am right and that is that, I am saying just do your research, make a few calls, and report back and we can "compare notes" - haha.

The judges number is on the APA website - if you show, woudlnt you kow that?

I am an APA member. This doesn't mean I keep track of what is posted on the website. Other than getting the standard and retaining membership, I haven't had too much to do with the APA website.

I will see about calling him this weekend. I will also send out a couple emails and see what the consensus is.

Ok, I look forward to hearing yoru findings.

Now, even if non-recognized colors cant be show, the whites are recognized - SO, does anyone raise the whites and have you done well in the shows?

Also, like I have said previously, any level of winning is cool to talk about, so if you have shown your buffs don't be afraid of grouchdragon, and talk about them!

Just wanting to see if any of you have a reference to a different viewpoint on how far Buffs can go in the shows?

Again, a judge cannot determine that.. it is in the hands of the show sponsor/promoter. The president and secretary would also have some authority on the topic.
Though a judge may hold a very respectable position in the hobby, they do not have much policy-making authority.
