Who is Mommy?

Here's a mystery for you to contemplate. This is our first grand chicken, an egg laid by chickens we hatched. Daddy is a big, beautiful Sussex, Mommy is one of the following: Faverolle, Australorp, NH Red, buff Sussex, or GLW.


Any guesses as to Mommy?

I'm going with sussex

my guess is the sussex as well or the nh red. i would guess the adult color of this chick to be a reddish or buff color

Yeah, I kinda thought, that, too. We did have a second chick (identical look to this one) hatch whose egg is from a different mom, though we do have two NH Reds so it could still be that breed. I know most people don't like mutts, but it's fun to see how they'll look! We have a third egg that hasn't pipped yet and is from an Australorp. Hoping it hatches so I can see what it becomes!

Yep, wing tips now look reddish to buff. The Australorp/Sussex cross has pipped and is peeping, still waiting for a zip. I assume it'll be black....
