Thanks Tori, I realized today that it's considerably below the vent, and since I have had no other hatches yet, I figured I'll give it a bit of time and see how it goes. I was concerned he might get picked on with that sticking out. He seems active enough. I do have another pip, so hopefully he'll have a friend by tomorrow morning--or better yet, tonight. (Tina, it was is the smallest egg pipped).
I probably should have explained a bit more about the ambulance. I'm an EMT, and we're an all-volunteer service, so I'm carrying the pager today, but unless it goes off, I go about my business as usual. We had a couple kids flip an ATV up the canyon in the dark last night (what their parents were thinking, I'll never know). I think one will have a cast and they will both be sore for quite a while, but after some recovery, they'll both be up and running around like normal teenage boys again--probably faster than they ought.
