Who is pipping and waiting right now??

That should be just the spot where the yolk absorbed, and it will disappear in a few days. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get infected.

Um... ambulance call?? Is everyone ok, I hope?

Thanks Tori, I realized today that it's considerably below the vent, and since I have had no other hatches yet, I figured I'll give it a bit of time and see how it goes. I was concerned he might get picked on with that sticking out. He seems active enough. I do have another pip, so hopefully he'll have a friend by tomorrow morning--or better yet, tonight. (Tina, it was is the smallest egg pipped).

I probably should have explained a bit more about the ambulance. I'm an EMT, and we're an all-volunteer service, so I'm carrying the pager today, but unless it goes off, I go about my business as usual. We had a couple kids flip an ATV up the canyon in the dark last night (what their parents were thinking, I'll never know). I think one will have a cast and they will both be sore for quite a while, but after some recovery, they'll both be up and running around like normal teenage boys again--probably faster than they ought.

I have 11 new babies here. Seven of them are under one hen and then there are 4 silkies being taken care of by two hens. They are so cute. I already have someone that wants the seven big chicks. That is why they were even hatched out. I had put them in the bator and then one of my hens decided to go broody on me so I let her have them. This is her first time to hatch and she is being a great mom. I am going to let her keep them for about a week and then I will call these people to come and get them. I might keep the silkies I don't know yet.

It's way too late for me to mess with pics tonight. After a day of running around on the ambulance (two calls, one being a transfer that took nearly seven hours--transferring a patient from hospital A to hospital B) I came home to two babies! Tina, you are a Maran grandma! I got home just as he/she was about halfway zipped and stood over the incubator (stooped way over to see every detail) for 25 minutes to watch it hatch! Very cute. One more of the eggs--a white one-- has pipped, so I'm hoping for more babies come morning. I promise to post pics later tomorrow.

I'm talking about my chickies to everyone--they all think I'm completely nuts. Who cares, i can always use more babies! lol

That's so awesome guys!

the1much: What adorable little chicks you have there!

I have nine eggs in the incubator that are on their 19th day today. Haven't heard a thing yet but there are caged birds in that room and hard to hear anything. 3 of the eggs are from my mixed chickens and the rest are a batch I bought that are mixed as well.

Have a hen sitting on about 8 eggs not sure if any will hatch but couldn't stop her from being broody should know something by the end of the week. Will let everyone know what's going on.

Well, here are the three of Tina's that hatched yesterday/early this morning. The first one was came from a cream-colored bantam egg. He's feather legged, but not black skinned.

Then there's the cute little Cuckoo Marans

And this Silkie cross--it has black skin, feather legs and five toes on each foot.

I still have two more in the bator that haven't pipped, but one has started peeping through the shell. I'll probably pip the second Marans air cell tonight or tomorrow morning if I don't see any sign of life before then.

I also candled Siz8003's eggs for the first time, on day 8 they all show some sign of development, but my flashlight needs new batteries, so we'll have to see how it goes and candle again next weekend. I also have some quail, I think they're bobwhite on day 4, so it's early yet to candle them.

I see how this can be so addicting. I keep toying with the idea of asking my sister to buy some eggs from someone advertising it on online classified to see if anything hatches. I might have to see if I can sell any of those babies if they did--I'm totally running out of coop!
