Who is pipping and waiting right now??

OK... 1 millie and 9 Light Brahmas just went into the hatcher, and 4 Millies took their place in the incubator. There are also 2 millies under a broody silkie in the breeder coop.

You should have no trouble fixing it's little leg. I had one that was so bad it would scoot around on it's butt all the time. It couldn't get it's legs under it for anything. I band-aided it's legs and the last time I saw it (it went to a new home) I couldn't even tell which one it was!!

The little chick wth the spraddle leg must have had something else wrong with it. I stayed up all wednesday night and this chick screamed the whole time. Once I realized it had the one spraddle leg I placed it back in the bator to warn up because it seemed cold. The chick lost it fight to live tonight and I swear it took part of my heart with it. Shelley and estpr3 thanks so much for your concern. My mom once told me years ago, " you can't save them all." It still hurts though when I lose one, even though I only knew this one a few hours.

I gotta stay strong for my Sadie.

Yeah sometimes it seems like just a hatching problem, and others it is deffinitely something else. I had a chick that hatched once with curled toes. No big deal right? It did the same thing, held on for about a day and cried the whole time. I had helped that one, and it probably would not have hatched at all if not for me. It just wasn't strong enough.

After waiting 24 hours, and no further progress, I helped both of them into the world. One of them did not make it. The other is out but seems to have a foot that the toes won't bend or curl on. It is so tiny. I am waiting for it to get fluffy and start walking around to assess.

I have noticed that the newly hatched chick will always cry when they first come out. That is the signal (for me) to go see what it looks like!

And the1much is right, they can stay in the bator for up to 3 days. If you open the incubator you're likely to make the other eggs not hatch at all.
