Who is pipping and waiting right now??

oooh, this wait is killing me!! So, to pass the time some questions for all you veteran chicken hatchers. This is my second hatch but my first hatch was pheasants. They were funny to watch. First one pipped and sat for 30 hours, then that one broke out (ever so slowly!) and the rest just erupted...pip,zip, out.

I know all hatches are different but any experience welcome. how long might they rock like this? Been two full days for most of them. Do they all peep? (some of my pheasants peeped right before hatch, some didn't)

once one pips do the others often follow suit? And lastly, will I survive the anticipation?????

Well I got up at 4am and couldn't wait to look. This is day 22. There was nothing going on.

I needed to add some water to the bator. I know it's not really the proper thing to do but I decided to candle them while I was at it.

I had 8 eggs in. 5 of those were dark on day 17, 3 were questionable. Those 3 looked virtually clear now, so I was confident in removing them. Of the 5, I couldn't get any movement or anything in 4 of them, although all of them had dark masses in them. The other one was making a faint peeping noise and i could see movement. It looked like I could see the heart beating also.

Hopefully the one egg will hatch but I'm pretty bummed about the rest of my eggs. Time will tell...

Good hatching to all of you

You WILL survive the anticipation... gosh, I haven't heard of anyone perishing while watching a hatch...

But they're all different. My first hatch of Button quail took a whole week to complete. The second hatch... 24 hours and they were all done. The opposite was the case with my coturnix quail. I've had 15 minutes from pip to hatch, and 3 days.

I was a wreck during my first few hatches, but at least one incubator (up to 3 at a time) has been going since April, so I'm pretty relaxed about it all now. They will hatch when they're ready, and if you keep the temps/humidity in range, then you've really done all you can.

Just find something to occupy yourself, and let the chicks do their thing...

Pippin and a Peepin over here!

Guinea eggs under my broody BO - I have 6 under her, and another 4 under a broody bantam.

Day 25 today!!

We have 3 different birds hatching we let them all set their own eggs. The silkie recently hatched 4 outa 5 under 1 of our ducks who stole her eggs away from her(their nests were right beside each other. That duck hatched 4 outa 8 of her own eggs then left those 4 and tended to the 4 that hatched. And we are waiting for our other duck to hatch she is setting on 9 of her eggs currently(1 was stolen and eaten by some type of animal, found the empty shell and paw marks) and it seems like it should be time for them to hatch but nothing is happening.we want them to hatch soo badly. How does candling work will this let us know if they will hatch? It seems like she' well overdue.Of course she's outside and has been setting thru all the rain and everything does tha tmake a difference?
