Who is the noisiest in your flock?

My Australorp hen, Blackie, never shuts up! I just love her. She walks all around the yard talking and when she sees me, she runs up and starts telling me her stories. Don't tell my other girls, but she's my favorite!

Oh I won't tell her

I have the chattiest Black Australorps, "Chamique" and "Blackjack". They screech at the crack of dawn to be let out of the coop; thank goodness the sun is starting to come up later now. They always have lots to say, and have great personalities. I also have a young Ancona, "Oreo" who has become the loudest of the bunch with her screeching. I'm a teacher and I always end up with a loud obnoxious student in my class that reminds me of them:).

It cracked me up when I looked on the byc's breed page and it said that Australorps are quiet. Maybe every other one, but not my Blackie. That reminds me. It's dark and I'm on this computer. Must go close up the girls or they'll be on the front porch in the morning. Hey, Wendy, I'm south of you a half hour ----I'm a Skagit valleygirl! I'm at the Bham farmers market every Saturday..been there 15 years. If you're ever there, stop by my booth and say hello. Cedar Mountain Herb School. I'm outside in the middle row of canopies...southeast corner.

Most of mine are pretty quiet but my 2 ee's are the noisiest...one makes loud squawks a few times a day...the other makes a loud squawk like every other day...

My noisiest is Pracilla our RIR and second place goese to Wynona SLW. Hope the neighbors dont start complaining:D

Two of our light Brahmas (1 year old) have made it their job to announce all happenings in the nesting area. Entering, laying, nesting, and leaving all require the egg song on hormones. Usually they take turns announcing, but the "fun" really begins when they decide to have an announce off. The egg song in stereo, as loud as they can.

Our roo, Magoo, started crowing at age 8 weeks. He crows for just about any reason, bored, alone, being male, finding food, wanting food, wanting attention, or just because. Right now he is our only roo that crows. It is not only a sound that makes us smile and laugh, but because crowing requires his whole body we enjoy watching him also.

After reading the above comments about Sussex hens I'm worried about our 6 Sussex pullets. Right now they are very quiet, rarely making more than a peep, at 13 wks old it is only a few weeks before they are laying and we may be in for constant noise. Where are the ear plugs?

Our coop and run are about 50 yards from the house so even when our windows are open we really enjoy the sounds of our chickens. It helps that we don't have any near neighbors to complain.

Brenda, formerly named Penny, lets the entire Everywhere know she's gonna lay an egg, and that she did lay an egg. For fifteen minutes or more.

"I laid an egg. I laid THE egg. This egg is better than anybody's. Mine is the best egg. Nobody else can lay an egg like the one I just laid. Its the very best egg. Mine. The one I just laid. None of the other girls can lay an egg as excellent as my egg."

Brenda is a light Brahma.

As for other high volume chickens, George the Silver Sebright wins that award, with Alex his brother coming in a close second.

And Molly, my BA, is a constant mumbler. "some of those banty chicks get in my way. Their mother is too lax with them. But what can she do? Four and probably all roosters. Chiarlie has been following Brenda all day. This concrete is cool on my feet but there arent any loose bugs here. That little rooster, Albert, really treats his wife and concubines well. Why don't the Sebright boys find goodies for us instead of faking us out with stupid twigs? Why do the Wheaten girls go everywhere with Calico? Don't they know Hitchcock stalks them? There must be some bug here, somewhere. "
