Who is with me?

CB,
Sounds like you are up to your ears in eggies!

WalksWithDog,
CB packs her eggs way good!!!! No way anything could have harmed those eggs! Both of the ones she sent me are developing!

Up to my ears in eggs is about right and chickens too. I got my friend taking 2 dozen which I am collecting for him in the morning. I then still have 2 days before they can be eaten again. I also changed my profile to fit what has accumulated lately.

I will get a pic for you when I go out to feed.

My youngest son (12) and I have just come inside from "playing" with our chickies. Frilly and all the outside babies are just growing and growing!

You know, never say something that the egg gods can hear.

The last broody decided to abandon her nest yesterday for real because the juvenille roos were bothering her. I tried resetting her and she would far rather go play... Sigh.

So my eggs are not lonely, chuckle. Now instead of two I have ten. Of course she accepted a second set of eggs from some other hen and there will be staggered hatching going on LOL.

But the cool thing is - the second set are within a day or three of the twin egg, so if either twin lives it would have hatchmates.

And the broodies eggs that are further along appear to be VERY close to the marans hatch date.

Thank you hatching gods, or God, or coincidink (lol).

For really funny the baby guineas are beginning to make baby guinea alarm sounds in the kitchen.

And I'm REALLY glad to hear that Frilly and company are outside playing and growing...

Hugs and good hatching to all....you friends and enablers you.

WalksWithDog,
I was in the Turkey section just now and I saw the picture you posted of your little guy struttin' his stuff. That is the most adorable picture I have ever seen.

I have Blue Slate eggs coming, but now I am thinking I might NEED a BR too..... hmmmm.......

I LOVE my Bourbon Red babies. And Brit is hilarious - that's the way he and the other two boys greet me in the morning, they run or fly up and all "show me their stuff" and I'm supposed to admire and pet their heads, and then all is right with their little worlds and the girls can come up for some attention. But I have to admire the boy struts first.

I doubt I'll ever live without turkeys now. They just kill you with cute and love and these are all lap hurdlers - fling themselves into momma's arms and lay their head on your shoulder, collapse their feet so you're cradling them and take a nap. Ummm OMG.

Even the babies that didn't have much handling are growing up to do it. The momma hurdle seems to be genetic...

I can take that.

Yup.... gonna have to get BRs too!!!!!! I will wait and see what the Blue Slates do first, but I'm hooked.

I too will keep turkeys from now on. When Helen (Blue Slate) was still alive, as soon as anyone pulled into the driveway, she would run to greet them. You would have to talk and play with her before you went into the house.

wwd, I have a friend that moves his broody to a separate area for her to sit and she sits. Now when me and 2 of my other friends tried it, the hen stopped being broody.

The young roos could also be why mine quit sitting.

I also need to thin my birds out and get it down to 8 hens per roo, but it is hard to tell on some which is a hen and which is a roo when they are young. I have some hens that at first I did think they were going to be roos, then they laid an egg. So I have learned not to go by the comb.

chickiemama, I am not going to look at the picture.

Is he NOT the absolutely silliest sweetest thing you ever saw? OMG I so love a turkey. And there's one of the girls that cannot survive the day without exactly three naps in Momma's arms and she insists. That's Trace and she's just a gem.

OMG the sound they make when they want up and you pick them up, and they fold up and become soft feathered puppies. Little nekkid head pressed up against you. Totally and completely doomed. And it so rocks.

My juvies are now let out morning and night for a couple of hours - so I have the flight of seven and five babies in with them now, and having nine turkeys coming winging at you (okay with the chickens raised with them that THINK they're turkeys) is flat amazing. The Calicos haven't adjusted to coming to Momma yet but I think they'll get there.

Word of warning - long sleeves, long pants. Turkey nails are sharp and the will fly into your arms, onto your shoulders or onto your lap. Laura got good and scratched up the other day outside in shorts. That'll teach her.
