Well I am down to 4 (out of 8) Blue Andalusian eggs and 1 is iffy and 2 (out of 8) Jersey Giants, this is out of 20 shipped eggs. As for my 8, all but 1 has made it this far. What a let down, especially with the shipped eggs having a HUGE air sac. Still 10 days left and fingers are staying crossed until the last day.

I guess if this fails I will try a new person to purchase from, or buy baby chicks. Baby chicks seem to make it through shipping better.

I am at 10 days now. I put the egg in the end of an old toilet paper roll and shined my mag light through it. This is the first time I have hatched so I am not sure what I am looking for, what do yall think........

I can't give an answer. I am so not an expert on candling. In fact, my candling skills are rather sub-novice.

That's not bright enough an image to tell on the internet. You'd have to get a lot more light into that egg for a photo to work. Sorry.

In the "Read me's on Hatching" at the top of this section there is a LINK to a candling site. It has great pics for every couple of days of incubation. Try finding that and going there and comparing. Pretty sure the words minkhollow are in the web address. But it's been awhile.

Damaged and huge air cell eggs can hatch. Huge aircell eggs often need extra humidity at hatch, since they lost a LOT of weight in transit.

I'm new to the chicken world, on day 16 now, getting quite anxious. I have found this site to be terrific for developmental stages and candling pics.

I work at home and the bator is in my studio, do you think I'm getting anything done??? I can't stop looking in and checking the temp, it's driving me crazy! Started out with 18, 3 infertile. Now down to only 9

Hope to get at least a few hatch and then will probably buy some chicks to fill up the hen house.

I have 1 iffy one still in the incubator, but only when it starts to stink will I remove it. Maybe I will just be lucky enough to get a chick out of it. I will candle once more in 4 or 5 days and then just wait and see how it goes. The ones that are good are alive and kicking, so I may just get something - if they do not end up shrink wrapped and suffocated like my last ones.

Due to the dryness and the large air sac's, I have been keeping the humidity a bit higher and many fingers crossed. I really hope to get something out of these shipped eggs, like at least 3 chicks. Only time will tell.

Just incase, I did find a hatchery that sells the chickens I am wanting.

Princefarm, It is actually hard to tell by the photo, but the shading of the egg looks similiar to my good ones. So fingers crossed for you also.

I candled today, day 12. Not all of them though I'll check them all and mark them tonight. It seems that something is growing in there and I have a feeling it is baby chickens.
I have been busy cause I got 15 Black Copper Marans chicks today

Cute little guys. I wonder what Black Copper Marans are crossed with as a breed, because I have baby chicks that look just like them.

I know all chicks are crossed with one thing or another to come up with the breed to begin with. Maybe my babies will grow up and put out the dark chocolate eggs. Never know, but will be interesting to find out.

Pic's, not much difference between mine and the ones in your video. They are all adorable though.

8 days to go for mine and fingers are staying crossed.

Out of the 11 chicks that I had hatch, 2 ended up dying. I think the baby ducks they were in with suffocated them. So I removed the ducks and everyone seems to be doing well.

7 days to go

and tragedy struck. I went to help my Mom yesterday morning and when I got home and checked the temp and humidity, temp was 104 and humidity was 83. Fingers are crossed more than ever now. I just wanted to cry.

I will candle tonight and see how every one is doing, but I believe the outcome may be grim and I may have hard baked eggs.
