Who is with me?

I love you guys!!!!!

I do believe intervention is necessary and have intervened more than once. Remember Frilly? Had I not intervened, she wouldn't be here with us today. Some of the guineas died before I even put them in the hatcher and for the peafowl, they died right about the time I moved them. They made no pips or anything so it just never occured to me they needed help. They were however all shrink wrapped.

These 6 little future turkey babies will be watched constantly!

Okay, so in my readings, it is being made apparent that shrink wrapping is caused by the humidity levels not being high enough. Now I feel horrible, but only to a degree. I mean, if that was the case, wouldn't most of them be shrink wrapped? My 14 year-old claims that he noticed two like that. He may be right. I may have just not noticed one, as I was yacking with him and his brother while doing it. The yacking also caused me not to put that one that I knew of separate from the others, so I won't know which it is, when the time comes to help. Of course, any that haven't pipped will probably either be dead or in need of help, I guess.

I am a bit nervous now. My husband and I had plans to go out of town on Sunday and Monday, as he got a paid day of vacation on Monday. I actually closed my day care to go and only do this once per year!! I have to choose between my hubby and this chick?! lol Hubby may not win... lol

Okay, I hope one of you guys are around to help me with this one... lol

I just checked and I have a chick that has apparently pipped, but it is on the side and towards the pointed end of the egg. It is a recent find and wasn't there just a few hours ago. I am not quite sure what to do. Do I try to help him now, as it is obvious he is coming out the wrong way? I don't know if this is one of the eggs that had the air sac down the side even or not...

I wouldn't help yet. I have had lots of chicks/ducklings pip at the "wrong end" and most end up making it out on there own just fine. Give it at least 24hrs(as long as its peeping). I'm sure it will make it out just fine.

I actually left for about 2 hours and have come back to find that the egg is a little more broken than it was before. I can actually see into it and see part of him. It doesn't look like any part of the beak (but how the heck would I know), I don't see any signs of movement and I hear nothing from the incubator at all. I am not sure how to put a picture in one of these messages, to see if anyone else can see better than I can. lol

I am going to give it a little bit longer, just to see if he makes any more progress...

Okay, I think that I figured out how to do the pictures, so I am going to give it a shot. They aren't that great, as the egg is in an odd place to take a picture. I didn't arrange them very well, for easy viewing, the last time that I rolled them. Oh well...little lessons...

Again, I am not hearing anything at all from the incubator. I just have this horrible urge to pull the egg to the edge and peel back more of the shell, just to see what part of his little body it is that is sticking through the hole! I am now sitting on my hands, as previously directed...

That is his little beak...if you stand there long enough, you can see it open. Still haven't heard him talk though...

I am going to be leaving soon to go watch some fireworks. I hope that he manages some more on his own, as it will make me nuts to go to sleep tonight, thinking that he may need help!!

Okay, we are at 18 hours later and nothing has changed. I can see where there is a membrane under the shell, but is it a second membrane that may have him shrink wrapped? His little beak isn't as pushed out as it was last night; he has fallen back a little. I can still see movement in the little whole that he has offered, but not anything significant. My problem is that I am supposed to be stepping out later this morning/early afternoon, so I want to help him, if he is going to require it. Otherwise, I am not going to be back until late today and then leaving again...

I really don't know how you guys do this!!

Maybe it will get easier with a bit more experience, but this is nerve wracking!!!! lol

Nothing else has pipped, so hopefully later today I will see some more action. I have tried to tell them that today is the day, but I am not sure if they are listening...

Woohoo!! I heard a tiny little peep, so I checked on him...he is now working off to the side of that hole! I continue to sit on my hands.... Aaahhh!

I am sorry if I am making you guys crazy!! lol

Okay seems you are just driving yourself crazy and not anyone else. I am here and will check with you regularly.

I read someone stated that they have had the backward chicks hatch, I myself, have had no success in them hatching alone. A few times I waited 2 days before intervening.

So let me know if your little one has made it out or not and I will help you the best I can.

If he is not out soon, like 6pm, you would probably want to give a little helping had.

Sorry I did not get with you yesterday, I had a house full and I thinking getting on the computer would have been a little rude of me. I am on my last egg for the 5th and then I can clean the incubator. I was going to do it before the 5th day hatch, but everyone just started hatching none stop.

I will get a picture and post it as soon as possible, probably when I check back with Riqui.

Good luck and I hope everyone had a great 4th of July.

Riqui I'm here and will check back around 3pm.
