Who keeps a chair in or near the coop?

Whenever I let them roam free, I stay out there with them the entire time. So I have two chairs right outside their coop/run - I prop a fan on one chair - aimed directly at the other chair, put up an umbrella to keep the sun off of me, and usually grab a couple freeze-paks from the freezer (to help keep me cool) and/or a cold drink - and sit out there all comfy while I watch them. If there are any little jobs that need to be done in the coop/run area, I do those then. Although they can range wherever they want to, they usually stay fairly close to me. When my husband is home, he takes the other chair and we enjoy a late afternoon/early evening chat as we watch the chickens.

My husband and I both have chairs outside our pen and we love to sit out and just watch them. How else are you going to learn their personalities and who is being a bully and being bullied. Of course the only draw back is that when they are free ranging the like to come up to the house and visit. Our friends were visiting from Florida last month and they loved to sit out and watch the girls. He wanted to take some home with him.

Who knew watching chickens could be so fun?!! My "girls" are 3 1/2 months old and I just started letting them out about a month ago. Our area is heavily wooded, so I sit with them when they're out. Good time to snap beans! I'll often find my husband letting them out when he takes a break and the grangkids too, just love to watch the hens. They ARE entertaining! And I find it very relaxing too. Who needs TV?!

I wanted to put a chair in the coop when they were tiny babies but I didn't want to seem weird.

I can see them in the chicken yard from my front porch!
