My Coop
My Coop
Lost an adored Easter Egger hen today.
I closed their gate before I left for school this morning and all was well. It was light.
I came home to the hen's body outside the gate (gate is not covered). Feathers EVERYWHERE all over my immediate yard.
The crapcake pred just took off her head, stripped her neck, ate the crop and right breast. Didn't touch anything more. So wasteful.

What did this? First time I've encounted such a wasted carcass. Smh.

I'm just pissed it wasted her. If you're going to kill her, EAT ALL OF HER.

Regards,
Cyprus

Sounds to me like a fisher cat. They're known to take only the head and rip open the breast, that's their thing. I would research and see if they're local to your area. They are sneaky little bastards, so if that is what it was, make sure your coop is secure. I'm so sorry for your loss, I pray that all your other babies stay safe :hugs

So sorry for your loss. I does sound like a raccoon though. I have 1 hen I nicknamed "hawkbait" cause she's just off in her own world, and pays no attention to the others when they give warning. :(
That was my Buff Orpingtons. Deaf in both ears and blind in both eyes (figuratively). Now all are dead. They were first to go, of course.

Supposedly, they aren't native this far south in WI. But they are permanent in the north of the state so who knows.
