One of the reasons I started looking for a house to try to buy is that my land-lady - who approved my chickens - was not happy when I got a pair of ducks. And then when I hatched out four little call ducklings, she popped a fuse. She had geese on the property before I moved into the rental house, but predators killed them (and one of my small dogs) within two months of my moving in. She's very fond of my chickens. Yet she doesn't like ducks.
She told me I had to get rid of the ducks; I begged to be able to keep my Cayuga pair. She relented, but when the duck was killed by a predator wanting the eggs in her nest, and I was left with a widower drake, she "strongly suggested" he needed to be rehomed.
I had found a home for the call ducks, but getting rid of Louie was too much.
I found a house to buy and will be moving out before the end of August. In the interim, I hatched and have raised 3 more call ducks, and bought three Cayuga ducklings. (I tried to hide them, but you know those call ducks, the little girls just won't keep quiet!)
But now, what's she gonna do - evict me? I gave her 3 months notice.
She's really a great land-lady, honest! It's just this duck thing I don't understand. And now, she's worried about finding a renter - which she wouldn't have had to worry about if she had just given in to the adorableness of ducks.
Love me, love my ducks.
