Who laid this?

I went out to the shed today and what did I find? Our first egg!!
My Pekin is around 8 months old and our cayugas are 6 months. I first assumed it was the Pekin, but then I seen black feathers in the nest. Of course it doesn’t necessarily mean anything. But I don’t know if Pekins normally lay a certain type of egg. The white egg is a chickens egg for reference.

My boys were so excited! But also concerned that the baby duck inside the egg died since it is 15 degrees and the egg was frozen.

That may have been your Cayuga, although it's pale for a Cayuga. What are you feeding them?

Very few actually lay the charcoal colored eggs.
Years ago I had ONE that laid the dark eggs. Fun fact.... As the season progresses they get lighter.

What is the protein level? Are they getting oyster shell on the side?
I am sorry for asking these questions. I'm not at all trying to impose, just wanting to make sure you have a good diet for your birds, which I'm sure you do

I honestly don’t remember the exact content, but our local vet assistant who has worked with the vet for 20 years said it’s what he feeds his ducks. And no I haven’t offered oyster shell yet since they haven’t started laying yet. But I guess I am now!
