I see so many people with various breeds of chickens on this website and so many fancy chickens. I want to know how many people have Reds and love them as much as I do. They are an old American standard breed. They are hardy, and good egg producers. They are friendly and intelligent. I could go on and on. I would like to hear from all of you Red lovers!

me me me!!

my favorite hen, Henrietta, is a RIR and we love her - so much that we ordered a passel of chicks from Ideal. they are out there right now, racing PAST the bagged feed to get into the grass and free range.

we love them!

i love their eggs! i love their temperament! i think they are beautiful! yay!!!

RIRs have a special place in my heart. My grandma used to keep them. Back in the depression she traded 3 RIRs for a singer sewing machine that some fellows had in the back of a truck. Back then you would sometimes feed strangers and tramps. She fed the fellows and noticed the sewing machine. I have that sewing machine and treasure it.

ME ME ME too!

I have 5 hens and a roo. They are the most popluar chicken in my neck of the woods. I personally, love the Orps the best though.

I love my RIR kids, I have 5, However I keep thinking that one is a Rooster. Big Red is the largest, has colored feathers in the tail, Large comb, NO Spurs and has never crowed, at this point I am not sure.

Got my first eggs from 2 of the other girls just 3days ago. I also have 2 EE and 2 Roos Silkey feathered footed, Father and son. My Grand Parents also had Reds, they rubbed off on me. I LOVE THEM

I love Rhode Island Reds!

I don't have any, but I do covet the nice dark ones!

Ooh, and the shiny-ness of the roosters' feathers is awesome!

Love 'em!

One of my RIR hens jumped up and peaked my eye ball today as I was petting the flock.

I think she got a thing for me!

Hey TP (That doesn't look right --let's start again)

Hey Tonopah Pati:

Since your RIR's just started laying, can you share with me what they look like? I have been trying to determine what their combs, wattles, and tailfeathers should look like when they are about to lay.

I have 6 RIR's , and they were supposed to be 16 weeks old when I got them 7 weeks ago. The guy I got them from said they should start laying at about 21 weeks. Now we are at 23 weeks and I haven't seen an egg yet.

Are my girls retarded, or was my seller exaggerating their age?

Any and all help would be appreciated (not just TP -- I did it again didn't I)

I have one big beautiful RIR rooster. I was not intending to keep any of the odd roosters but just can't give this one up, he is just too pretty. So he free ranges around the yard with the other spare roos that I haven't gotten rid of yet and they all have learned that he is the biggest and baddest and to stay away from him, lol. He has never, however, attacked me.
