I have a small group of 20 in one pen but am looking to add to that with fresh breeding stock, BUT, I want the real JUMBO eggs from birds who are up to and around 18 oz. Anywone one here that can help me out or point me in the right direction? I also need to know the best humidity for these guys since they hatch early and arent like my bantams. Thanks in advance...Hope you quail experts can help me out.

Well I appreciate the correction on size and now I wonder how people are selling eggs that they SAY are from 18oz birds??

Any suggestions on who may have some nice sized Jumbos?

I also need help with correct humidity.

If some of the Ebay jokers could pull it off, they would be offering live unicorns for sale, which are about as rare as the semi-ostrich size "jumbos" that they profess to have.

Lake Cumberland, JJMR, Quail Lady or Myself have some fairly big birds. Most of my stock came from Lake Cumberland and the rest from a local breeder. I would say most of our birds are somewhere around 11 ounces. The humidity should be about 45% for the first 14 days and then 60+ for lockdown.

Coturnix are the most mis-informed species of all birds I think. People buy some 2 pound giants off e-bay and end up with some little birds and think they did something wrong. Whenever I see that on ebay I report it.

WONDERFUL info, and yes, I've seen several of the 'joker' type on ebay as well. Do any of you have eggs you would be willing to sell? I can mail a heat pack if that would help. We're in a deep-freeze currently...All over natl news, BUT, now at least our mail is moving. Would love to work with any of you as I trust BYC'rs more than any ebay seller. Thanks again for the help and info, I do appreciate it.

Well, in that case my 1#'s are absolutely obese. Ya, they do eat a hugh amount of food starting just after hatch.
OK, Robo you got me riled enough to come back on. So long as my low blood pressure doesn't spike.

quaillady and another, I'll be sending you more stock after the next freeze and when the boys get back in shape. You ain't seen nothing yet.
Out of 20 eggs this morning for breakfast only about 4 were fertile. So we wait. No, I didn't loose any of my 48 Breeders to the freeze.

There is no 18 oz coturnix period.

There is not even 16 oz coturnix, you may get one now and then, but if you average 14oz you have super duper bionic flock.

If you want larger quail go for Butlers or Georgia Giants but they take at least twice as long as coturnix to reach butchering size .
