Who On Here Has The REAL "Jumbo" Coturnix? I need eggs

Quote:
my BIRDS ARE ONLY 8-10 OZ LOOKS LIKE ALL THE 12-14 OZ BIRDS ARE LARGER when reading the different studies the fuzzy part about Mr MARSH USING birds from a avicultural source outside the lab is the most interesting part to me. I think you will reach a stage in the size you have to bring in new blood to get over a hump or get past a wall if you will on size. I also think that a quails size is almost limited by their skeletal system frank butler kina ran into the birds that he developed ( Butler Bobs)were so big they had a hard time breeding. I got lucky with my bobs a local breeder started me with some really nice sized birds then I got some of JJ's and my bobs are pretty nice sized birds it is kina funny I can look at a chicks face and know who their Mom is LOL

Your birds are smaller, for now. But as you continue they will get larger. But as people have said as they get larger its harder to add on more size, when they are in development, especially. Don't give up. There are natural ways to give them a little push to the next level. Changing the feed is one.
Its funny you talk about looking at the face and knowing who the Mom is.
That bird of mine is either the daugher or GD of Big Bad Bertha, who's weight does not fit her size. So this little adolescent can get a lot bigger, based on lets say Mom's (for simplicity) skeletal size. This is one reason I sieve oyster shell into their sandboxes and add finely crushed chicken egg shell. To make sure they have enough calcium for that bone structure to grow. The old studies said they needed 3% + calcium and the feed nowdays doesn't have it along with the high protein for here in the south.
Then I wait until their organs increase in size to support their weight. Makes for more sustainability.
As for new blood, I don't believe in development that was done. Except to mark them. Let me find that report and put it here. To me it explains the increase in Mutations seen in the last 20 years. It also explains the difference we see in the GOLDS from here and overseas. Different Markers were used so the colors have to be from a different area of DNA.

And Joe the proper name for Coturnix at the weight of 16 oz or more is Giants not Moby quail.

To answer is there ever going to be Jumbos from the other color (Range size) Mutations. The answer is yes, its really only a matter of time.
