Who persuaded a non-BYC'er to get Chickens?

That's what happened to us - went to a chicken clinic for 4-H last year, my son held a chicken and could not believe how warm it was. The rest is history. We have gone from 12 broilers (to uncontrollable tears from mom on sale day) to 6 little pullet chicks to buying eggs off ebay... how hard could it be... to buying a bator to just hatching my third batch of eggs and cleaning and disinfecting the bator this afternoon.... waiting on 2 shipments of eggs due to arrive on Tuesday.... after that.... I volunteered to hatch a bator full of chicks for my son's classroom....

I've gone chicken crazy

Talked my brother to get them, he did but only if I hatch eggs for him, now he just rescued 16 from a foreclosed house. I think he hooked, next is getting him on BYC

Just imagine, if all our 25,000 members talked just 3 or 4 people into getting chickens....

I have a number of friends who have considered it, but they don't seem to take that last final step. However, two people I know just got chickens (one got 5 pullets for their orchard and one just ordered a coop). Another one wanted a rooster and several hens but their neighbors got upset just hearing about it, so they didn't get them after all.

A guy I work with got tired of hearing me talk about chickens so he bought 8 chicks off of me. Now he wants more. I told him from the beginning that it would be addictive but he did not believe me. Now he knows why. He knows why too!!!!!

I must say, I am a terrible enabler!!

I have talked 4 of my 4-H families into trying poultry now, the last one is trying ducks this year, another is going to get rabbits and geese this year after 2 years with chickens. Yeah, just ask my friends, I think everyone should have lots!!

Count me in....I've ALMOST got one under my belt. My DD has an Occupational Therapist that comes to our house twice a month for the past year.... He LOVES the chickens and couldn't believe how good the eggs were! He's got his wife convinced and they are coop shopping now.

Im working on my neighbor next door- my plan is to tell them I will keep a couple hens for them here because they don't want the work there. That will guarantee they have eggs whenever they lay.

2 of my friends have chickens now that I gave them. They were already
interested but I sorta pushed the issue.

At least another dozen people have chickens I've hatched but most were
BYC members already.

My mom is currently having my husband and I help clean out the barn/garage so that she, and her dh can get some chickens.

They have a friend with a HUGE flock of free rangers that live in the same town. But it wasn't until I got the girls and started telling my mom of their personalities and antics, that she became interested in having some of her own.

Now I just have to steer them in the "right" direction on amount of and breeds of. I need to make sure that my mom doesn't end up with 50 potentially completely un friendly chickens.
