Who said bobwhite quail dont go broody???

do you know if coturnix quail will do the same? also was there plenty of vegetation and what kind of straw did you use?

People say the odd corturnix goes broody. However, I think it will be possible if you really want them to. It works best when you raise them yourselves, not from sales or kijiji, and keep one pair in a large aviary, with lots of natural cover. There was quite some vegetation, like corn, high grass, and oats. The one made his nest in a little open hutch,(white one) and the other just outside. The one in the hutch used the hay wich was already there to make a bowl shaped nest. I also sometimes make them myself. This is done by making a bowl shapes nest and the top also covered (refer to google images of quail nests) I then put some eggs in there wich they already laid, they like the spot and keep on laying in that nest till there are enough so the can brood them. It is outside, and part of it has a roof. I sprinkle natural seeds around the aviary like cracked corn, milo, millet, and whole corn. None of that layer stuff. And they all do fine!

do you think they would go broody in a shed with some artificial/natural light? also were you saying raise them from babies and never let them see the other group of quail or what?

I just meant that if you get them off a sale or something, they might be really scared or had a bad life. If you raise them yourself and you did it right, they will be tamer and more comfortable, which is really important.

yep im going to keep mine in a aviary in my shed. my last batch of quail got eaten by a weasel. it chewed the heads off and sucked the blood out through their necks I WAS FURIOUS!
