Who says goat hoove trimming is easy?

I trimmed the hooves of my goat on yesterday and it was MORE difficult because I changed the shears that I used. Someone mentioned that garden/prunning shears worked to do the job as well. Well, I was unpleasantly surprised to find out that this DID NOT work. We had a time trimming the shears. Had to go over to the neighbors to see if they have any shears because they have goats as well. They didn't have shears because they use some other type of apparatus to trim hooves. I don't even know the name of what they have. I will have to get the name and post a pic of what we used. That little pygmy goat is strong!!!!

Yes they are strong. I actually been meaning to get this topic back up for winter trims. I trimmed mid sept....all of mine and a few rescues but one of my does. I will again mid nov. and then not for at least 3 months again. I did not do my togg last time cause she is a little pill. she is timed and so scared she hicups or something when I do it. She is getting better and not making that noise so much when I pet her now. She still sure kicks and has clawed at me at first too and broke her collar to get loose when I tied her one time....lasted like 2 min.

I will do hers though mid nov.

Well my hoof trimming tool I use is back in a post on this thread and at first I thought it was not very sharp. I think though really it is that what I am trimming is super thick and hard cause it sure cuts me good.

I will complete the winter trimming as well. I will search for your tool in the past posts.

Need a reminder? I have been trimming goats again lately. :) One of my girls has a limp though. This was not from me trimming....the reason I did hers now is cause it is needed but because she was limping.

I have cleaned it out and cut it back like it should be. I sprayed it with diluted bleach water. Waited a few days to see if limp would get better and it did not. I then cleaned and sprayed it with blue kote and it has been a few days again. Can I use kopper tox on it? What should I use or can I use? I don't see anything really visually. Some really soft skin/brown and what not. Nothing that really stands out to be infected or hurting.

Sorry to hear about your girl. Not sure what advice to give you. None of mine ever had that problem before. Is she still limping? If you still don't get an answer here, you may want to go to the sister site backyardherds and post there. I'm sure someone can help you there.

And it's time for me to trim my sheep again. All but 1 of the girls are pregnant, so I will have to wait until after they deliver. Not looking forward to trimming. :/

Thank you, I will probably just get some kopper tox and try that. She is still limping last I seen. You can trim them now while pregnant can't you? I am the goats.
