Well temp in bator is good so is humidity. I hope we do better then the last time. I need to locate some female pekin ducks that r mature and laying eggs. We had a pekin die today totaly out of the blue was fine last nite. He was 3 months old we found him siting in the yard and breathing heavy we brought him in and wraped him up. He died a few mins later

my dd cried for hrs. He sounded like he had fluid in his lungs . We had a bad rain storm yesterday but i had put all the ducks in the barn for the nite . So i have no idea what hapened to him. The three baby rouens we hatched last week are up and runing all around > The one that was 3 days older is now way biger then the other two. And she showed them how to eat it was so cute. They all sleep together. So i hope we get more from this hatch the waiting is so hard since it takes 28 days LOL

Well good luck everyone keep us posted

I know what you mean about waiting 28 days! It has been nearly a week for me and I can only imagine that the next few weeks will drag by. Now I'm second guessing myself about trying ducks first, chickens would have been so much faster!!!

Good luck with your hatch, can't wait to check in here to see how its going.

sorry for your loss, both My hens are broody sitting on the same nest,I'm not sure how ill handle this but I'm going to wait a few more days before disturbing them,I had considered splitting the nest and letting them both sit,not sure how they would react though.

Yea it was hard to loose a duck iam just glad the others are doing good. So my kidos went out to check for eggs this morning and they said the Rouen duck named Angel had made a nest and there were three eggs in it. I heard rouens do not go broody and tend to leave the nest? Does anyone know if they will sit in the eggs and hatch them? As far as my eggs in the bator I am having temp changes it goes from 98 to 100 . The only thing I can figure is that with 40 duck eggs in there its holding more heat since the eggs are lrger then when i did chickens. The new big bator is having temp spikes up and down pretty sure we will to move it to our bedroom were the temp stays pretty much the same in that room. Were it is now has to many doors and windows and at nite temp drops in the house . Our house has a furnace ran by wood and a wood stove in the den. And with it being spring we do not run the heat so at nite the temp is just droping to much in that room. Also i had to put a humidifier in the room with that bator. So it will be interesting to see how those eggs turn out with all the ups and dwns. Ihave no more room for rouen eggs in bator so I am going to try to see if somebody on here that lives in On Canada wants to swap. Below is a picture of the new bator it can hold 265 eggs. Have a great day all keep us posted on your duckies

We hae a Rouen pair and my hen went broody while we were out of town and not collecting the eggs. She was a first timer (she's about 1 yr old) and hatched 6 out of 10. I think she got off the nest far too often is why the hatch outcome was low. Once the weather warmed up she couldn't stay out of the pool. Anyway...yes they will go broody.

I'm in! I set 10 Muscovy and 4 Rouen on Mother's Day. This is our first try at hatching ducks. Our temps are 99.5-100 and humidity is between 60-63%. We are using a HovaBator 2362N with auto turner. I only have two sections of the turner slats in to make room for the Rouen's to hatch since Muscovy's take a week longer to hatch. The Muscovy were shipped eggs and the Rouen are from our own. The Rouen's are really in there for testing. We shall see...

Good luck to all!

Yea last batch was our first tme hatching anything. It was a learning curve we had to muddle are way threw. I found my ducks had a hard time once they piped they kind of just stayed like that. After 2 days of basically no progress we helped them out. I wish we had the others sooner we lost 7 we ended up with 3. This time i will not be afraid to help if i see no progress in the pip. I have a hova bator that has turner and is at 99 and 60 to 65% humidity. This round I did not put chicks in with the ducks. The chickens are in a home made Cabnet style bator. We had to move that bator upstairs the room temp down stairs kept going up and down due to lrg windows & doors. While hubby and son were moving it carefully a cartoon of eggs slid and we lost 7 eggs 4 of which were ee and i realy wanted those only have 2 left. I will have to call my bf and get her to save me some from her chickens. I cant waite to candle duck eggs in a few days. My rouens have made a nest out in the yard think I will let the girls keep there eggs this week and see what they do. I would love to get some different duck eggs the next time around. Well got to go feed my big ducks tc all and good luck keep us posted.
