Who would have known?!! LOL

It is amazing how much they change as they get older.

They start out looking like this...

...and then 4 weeks later they look like this...

I like it when I go out in the back yard and they come at a run when they see me.

Ugh thats gotta stink working that many hours. Mine does 50 and I thought that was bad. Its not hard to build a coop, I built ours with the help of my 5yo DS. It's just a simple A frame with a 10'x10' foundation.

i would have tried making it myself if i had tools! lol. My hubby is an independent contractor as well as a chiropractor and acupuncturist. He takes all the tools with him! I think i have a couple screwdrivers and maybe a hammer around here. He has everything else in his big work truck.

The initial costs of getting poultry and providing them with what they need can be daunting...But the major costs are a one time expenditure that will reap returns for many years to come...

Once these finacial expences are met Feed becomes the major recurring cost to maintain a flock...is the home production of eggs worh the investment.

I don't look at cost alone...or else I'd never have invested in poultry at all.

A good quality product far out-weighs the cheaper cost of store bought eggs; and how could you place a price tag on the entertainment value of these crazy birds??

I spent $150 on the brooder alone

I keep track of all my costs. I plan to write things off (I am an accountant) and I have the intent to earn income from breeding. The start up costs are really high.
I spend $15 for feed every week. I just want to break even or even have a little money in the bank from them. I still would be doing it if I didn't earn anything though. Their personalities have me head over heels!

Are you planning on creating a business with the cute little chicks?? I am thinking the same thing. Although I only started out thinking a few chickens, a few eggs, and less bugs. But they are just too cute and in a higher demand than I thought. Plus when I was looking for some more local chicks I wasn't able to find much. So I thought "What the heck, I'll start my own little chicken farm."

I am only 13 an I spend at least 95% of my money on chicken stuff. Right now I've got $70 going onto a new incubator

I love my chicks they have done so much for me I laugh all the time watching them esp during dust bath time lol also me and my 14 year old daughter sit out about an hour every night with the girls and we laugh and talk and have really good quilty time togeather. then also do the same thing with my 7 year old neice when she gets out of school and seeing her learn from then and my 9 year old neice went on line and studying chicks to help me raise them that alone is worth every $ spent on them and now we are waiting for eggs to start a new chapter. then you thow the actually chicks in there so sweet and funny and loving i cant get over how loving they are they like to cuddle and sit on my shoulder (although that makes me nerves do to the fact there excelent poop machines). chicks are great i think everyone child shoud have this experance
