Hi,
Very concerned about my shaking hen.
Breed: Amberlink Hen
Age: 7 months ~21days
1st Egg: July 21st
[November 2nd, 2020]
My hen stopped laying eggs 18 day ago. Her appetite has decreased, she is lethargic, has bright red comb, daily (whole-body) shaking episodes, periodic gaping mouth, and once a day poop (recently explosive with diarrhea).
Originally believed she was egg bound, but she's still alive and no eggs yet.. She presents as broody (ruffling of feathers, noises when you approach, staying on nest, etc.). But the whole-body shaking is very concerning. I can't find anything like it online!
There's also chance she go into moldy food 3 weeks ago, which I removed. I deep cleaned the coop and run, but she has no interest in leaving my brother's gaming chair. I get glimpses of her old self at least once daily and she is still preening. She shows great interest in treats, but not much with normal feed (could it be PTSD from the moldy stuff?)..
Any ideas for what could be wrong? Recommendations or solutions?
Additional Background Info
There's only 2 hens (entire flock), each have their own nesting boxes available. Outdoor temperatures have started dropping to low 30°F with random days in the upper 60°F-70°F. We have had lots of rain too.
Consumable items available within coop:
- Purina Layena Layer Crumbles
- Dumor Oyster Shell
- Dumor 5-grain stratch
- Water
Recent treats:
- Blueberries
- Scrambled eggs
Tried soaking her in warm water when I thought she was egg bound. Looked like it helped at the time, but this is still going on.
Pictures attached. Close up, ruffled feathers, normal feathers, tonight's explosive diarrhea (disclaimer: normal poop followed)
