Whole foods?

On the bright side, I started using the Samsung health app, I think it's called S Health or something like that, and I love it aha

GREAT!!

Does it keep track of all the food you eat and steps?

I'm not too sure as I only just started using it but I think so!

That's just one page but it does heart rate/stress/oxygen (does it all from one one sensor on the back of the phone? At once) and you can set goals like how much you wanna move a day, how many calories you wanna eat, and one other thing, i set it for 60 minutes a day activity for now and I forgot what I put for calories. And you can enter what you ate. And I think you can use it for running? And steps. Haven't tried either of those ha

Oh I remembered the other thing, sleep. You can set when you want to go to bed and wake up. I don't think it's an alarm or anything but just a goal to sleep i guess.

And you can choose to monitor water intake too.

It has a lot more stuff than I thought haha

sounds like it is a great app....60 minutes of exercise a day is a lot!
Try for 10,000 steps a day.

It definitely seems like it so far! And yeah, that might be a lot. It defaulted to that and it seemed like one of the lower options so I kept it haha and I'll try that.

I got lots of good healthy soups today, they were ob sale 4 for $6 so I overdid it LOL they're by Campbell surprisingly.

And I even tried to be healthy and got a salad at dinner (went after class with friends). But I must admit I am bad and also bought some mini eclairs at the store and cheez it snack mix and a couple yocrunch yogurts, with the candy toppings.

And I went to a parking lot and ate 3 of the 5 mini eclairs and hid the rest.... i feel like a drug addict or something LOL

I'm laughing but I must admit it wasn't really a nice feeling hiding out to eat crap, especially as cars drove by, and it was actually kinda sketchy. I don't think I like it and I really gotta actually try. It kinda hit me then that it's probably not normal lol of course it also hit me when I went to the grocery store just for sweets cause I "needed" it.... thankfully I ended up buying other stuff too but still.

Anyway, I also got tortilla chips and pretzels.

Here's the soups. I think there's another store that has more flavors and might be cheaper, they had them a few months ago, this one just started carrying it I think but maybe not.

And eating both yogurts now and I don't even know why, I already feel kinda bad/almost a headache and just funny whole body. I guess from too much sugar?

It's ridiculous.

And really I don't even know why I keep posting if I'm not going to try. I guess because I WANT to try? But it's hard. Clearly sugar has a strong hold on me aha

But I just thought of an idea, and I don't even know if it would work or not so correct me if it won't, but sugar, drugs, exercise, all pleasurable things, all activate the same pleasure centers in the brain, right? And release I think dopamine or endorphins or something, right? So my idea I thought of is this: maybe when I have this major craving/need for sugar, instead of caving I can just exercise instead? Or something similar to that. Thereby releasing the happy chemicals and satisfying my brain while getting exercise while also not eating the sugar. Would that work?

Cause I gotta do something, apparently I was just barely in the pre diabetes range and it will go down easily so that's good, but still, I know I have that yet I, continue to eat worse. Maybe it would be best to throw the junk out? Or something...

But continueing on what I was saying above, the hard part is detecting the cravings or whatever cause normally I just sorta know I need it/gotta have it and go get it. But maybe that in and of itself is detecting a craving/idea? But I've had other problems before, not drugs or anything, but that was easy, the thought crossed your mind that you needed or wanted to do it and you had to go through steps to get it, and you could more easily stop it. But with this it seems harder to detect and stop.

The hardest part is getting started. Once you start making changes and seeing results, you'll get excited about it and it'll be easier to continue. Like when you realize your clothes are now too big, and you have to go buy a smaller size- that's really motivating. Or you take your measurements and see that you've lost an inch around your waist.

But getting started is tough because you feel like you're giving up all this fun stuff and not really getting a reward! So first you need to find what works to deal with your sugar cravings. I'd give your exercise idea a try; next time you want ice cream, take your dog and walk to the mailbox and back three times. Then see if you still want the ice cream. Also, if you have treats in the house, make them less accessible. Hide the ice cream underneath all the stuff in the freezer, put candy up on a high shelf behind a bunch of other groceries. Make it so that the treats aren't just there for the taking.

Now this might not apply to you at all, but do you use food as "comfort"? I used to, if I was stressed and upset, I ate candy to feel better. I did that a ton in college, hence why I got so out of shape. It's a super hard habit to break, but finding an alternative outlet to deal with stress helped me more than anything else. I'd have a cup of hot cocoa (which was warm and comforting) and read a funny book, and it was so much better for me than eating a huge piece of cake with several scoops of ice cream.

Thanks for all your help!

These are all good points and good ideas too

Yeah, I think getting started is definitely the hardest part both in this and in anything really but I think you're right, once I see results or even just once I've been doing it a while, then it might be easier so I guess I just gotta start. Maybe I need to build up some more willpower too though haha

I never really thought of it in those exact words but you know, that's probably exactly it! Or at least a huge part. Bad food just tastes so GOOD. And good food, well, doesn't... well, I mean, some of it is good but not as good as junk and you know I'm sure they do that on purpose and research how to make it addictive so I guess I gotta beat them at their own game aha maybe part of the key is making good food taste better? Or bad food taste bad? Maybe I need to pour hot sauce on the junk food and teach myself aversively lmao I'll definitely try the walk idea first though, that's great. And that is a great idea about hiding the bad stuff! I'll try that. Although I think I might have tried that once or tried hiding a credit card or something and I just dug it out or bought more junk food ha but I gotta resist. And it definitely will make it easier cause I'm not gonna go driving or searching in the middle of the night.

Hmmm, I never really actively thought of it like that, like I don't think I'm stressed I need junk, but I mean I'm sure I probably do somewhat. Living here can be pretty stressful, I have so many greys ha, so I could be subconsciously doing it? And even if I'm not, I do need to find a way to deal with stress anyway so that might be worth trying. And I feel like I started getting worse/eating more after an fight w/some Internet friends now that you mention it.. aha

I need to do something about the stress though definitely because my mental health isn't the best either but that's a whole separate issue. Although maybe not, I read diet can really affect it. But anyway, back to MH, I'm a lot better than I was and definitely stable but I just have a lot of like stress and anxiety and stuff plus I've never been diagnosed but I'm positive I have OCD. And then probably from the stress and all the other stuff probably really mild depression cause I'm better than I was a few years ago, I used to definitely have it and be upset a lot, among other things, now I mostly just have lingering self care/motivation problems aha

But all that said, I feel pretty good/happy mostly now so I guess I'm better?

ANYWAY.

Sorry, you didn't ask for all that rambling and life story and awkward crap.

But I mean all that said, I guess it could possibly be partly from stress?

Or lack of willpower/motivation.

Although I quit something a lot harder to quit so I should be able to quit bad eating/habits too
