Crumb-bum!
I went to my feed store, and after chatting with the lady, I asked if her turkeys were laying---since I'd like to try and hatch one. Her birds are laying, (a mixed flock) and she said I could come back today & take whatever they laid.
The owner wasn't there this morning, so the token hottie farm kid walked the property and helped me gather eggs. The turkeys have run of the property, so it was a bit of a hunt. We found tons of random eggs- but only 2 turkey eggs. Then he hit the jackpot--a hidden clutch of 8? eggs. He put them in the carton, I took them home, marked them, and candled....whhhoOOOOOPPPPS!
The eggs are WAY far along on development. Some looked like day 15, some seemed totally dark. I should've realized when they were all bottom-warm, but it is already 100 degrees outside. I feel sooooooo bad for the poor turkey hen. We must have frightened her off the nest while stomping around. Poor girl. POOR EGGIES! I hope I didn't kill them--they were only in transport for 8-10 minutes.
Cross your fingers farm boy and I didn't doom them.
Cross your toes the feed store owner won't be mad at me!
