Hey everyone,
Well, it's my favorite season..... SPRING! What does Spring mean? CHICKS! Ok, ok I've never really gotten my chicks in Spring (for some reason it's always been Sep-Nov) but I want to now! I show all my birds (or try too..

) My dad has agreed to get more chickens (well, he hasn't actually said yes yet, but I have a plan....) But the rule is SHOW QUALITY ONLY! I've found 2 breeders that have a great selection; Superior Farms and Sand Hill Preservation. Leaning towards Superior Farms (they have BLACK HAMBURGS!!!) has anybody here had any expierience with these breeders before? Feedback would be great.
But now comes the tricky part: Which breed. Should I specialize? (can't breed, no roos allowed) Or get a whole jumble of differant breeds? I like the idea of a whole jumble because then I have a variety, and my birds wouldn't compete against each other in the show ring. I have only room for about 2 standard or 3 banty (i hope to split the order with someone. Anybody interested? I live in the San Francisco area) Here is my list so far: I am definatly getting a Silver Campine.
Standard-

Buttercup
Black Breasted Red Cubalaya
Buff Catalana
White Faced Black Spanish
La Fleche
Black Hamburg
Golden Penciled Hamburg
Silver Spangled Hamburg
Golden Spangled Hamburg

Banties-

B.B. Red Phoenix
Black Wyandotte
Silver Laced Wyandotte
Golden Laced Wyandotte
Buff Wyandotte
Partridge Wyandotte
Buff Brahma
Dark Brahma
Light Brahma
Black Langshan
White Langshan
Blue Lanshan

help me pick! I'm leaning towards banties and/or rare breeds and trying to steer clear of feather footies but help it!

Sand hill does not have show quality a few of their breeds are show quality but not very good in my opinion. You would be better of ordering from a breeder, breeders have much better quality. I can help you get a hold of some if you are interested. what breeds do you want to get?

That is just my problem. If was to get a whole jumble, it would be hard to find someone with breeds I like. If I were to specialize, i would choose the Campine, and it IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND THEM ANYWHERE EEXCEPT HATCHERIES. what to do , what to do... but thanks for responding!

I have ordered from sandhill I got some nice birds, and I thought their excheq. leghorns where quit nice.

But back to the breeds.

I like Butter Cups I have a pen full. They have great personalty and are beutiful birds just keep in mine that if you live in a cold climate that the roosters are prone to frost bite and so you will have to prevent that.

Hamburgs they are good if you like a flighty chickens, and I mean flighty. I learn the hard way. I brought some and they was to much for me to handle I sold them off.

I have a firend that raises the langshans they are beutiful birds that is going to be one of my projects this summer.

I wish you luck. I am sure you will make the right decesion.

Thanks! I was trying to stay away from feather footies, but Langshans are such cuties, and they have pretty colors, too. (I've only ever seen black) I do like the idea of Buttercups...
