Who's Going to the TN Valley Fair Sept 5-14?

Hey, there will be TONS of people there to see and appreciate your shirt. And we already got to see it!

I will probably go back to the fair on either Monday or Tuesday....maybe Wednesday....anyway, I'll probably be back for another day in addition to Saturday. So maybe we'll get to say hi in person after all.

Do you remember what your entry number is? I want to know when I'm admiring your birds!

edited because sometimes I can't type!

I'm starting fairly small and simple but shipped in eggs, dorkings and dark cornish, I've always been interested in them, going to compare them to black broilers. I'll probably keep a couple pullets of each to play with after they're grown out.

Then spring and Partridge Rocks, chicks and eggs and Cochins - because I have been feather foot addicted by SOME PEOPLE. Turkeyes somewhere in there - bourbon reds.

And I'll just toy along in that vein and add a couple of silkies when Laura isn't looking. I think they're neat.

Mostly I'm focused on a good flock of PR's. Play with feather foots, and dinking around with meatbreeds in between. I can already see a need for a second coop, I'm just not telling Laura. If I like the dorkings, I may maintain them.

Of course I still have turkey accomodations to build, and a sheep shed.

Wow am I going to be both busy and happy.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Okay... except the ENABLER who cheered for TWO incubators. LOL. Evil wicked person after my own heart.

Pictures of chickens coming soooonnnnnnn.

I forgot to write the ticket # down. The name on the tags is Lori Martin.
I made sure I took a pic of the boys in their cages with the tag showing. Maybe the # will show up in those...

Mine are in the last double aisle before you get to the back of the poultry building. The silkie is a self blue in a top cage on the end closest to the Jacob's bldg. The millie boys are sharing a cage at the opposite end of the same row of cages (the end closest to the livestock pens). They may split them up but I'm not sure. Mine are all quite young compared to the other birds there last night.

I know I'm biased, but mine were the prettiest of their breed there when we left last night

WalksWithog I felt the same way about silkies, but then I got my d'Uccles. Now I'm ready to commit to them as my banty of choice. They are so sweet.

Sounds like you have some nice breeds picked out. Hatching from shipped eggs can get pretty depressing, due to hatch rate, but I think the end result is worth the time and money. But boy oh boy does it test your patience. If you're pacing the floor over a bator shipment, imagine how you'll feel when waiting on a box of live embryos!

Seriously, I know I'm an evil wicked enabler. But I also know its awesome to have 2 bators for those 'just in case' scenarios. Imagine ordering 2 types of eggs and one box arrives a week before the other...

Hey guys --

I went today, saw lots of beautiful birds. Lori, I said hi to your handsome boys!

I had an urge to buy several of the birds, but the one I really wanted -- a beautiful mottled bantam cochin hen -- was unfortunately very much NOT for sale. Sigh. I also considered some of the bantam buff brahmas, but finally decided to stick with cochins and araucanas as my bantam breeds for now. Oh, and there was a "welsummer" there who was obviously actually an EE -- she had muffs and a beard -- I was tempted to ask if she was for sale, too! I bet she lays interesting eggs!

So many chickens, so little space!

Glad to know my guys are doing okay. I'm back from GA but too tired to go to the fair. Will go tomorrow after work. Can't wait to see all the beautiful birds

I'm going to the TN Valley fair tomorrow. Went to the State Fair Saturday. I hope there are better birds at the valley fair. The state fairwas thin though I think I got a couple of good pics of a mille fleur roo and hen that Lori will like. The Roo was impressive.

The cochins there were pretty average. There was one Partridge Rock Roo I loved. He was purty. Nice big guy.

Can't wait for tomorrow, then I'll upload the pics.

Doesn't look like I'll be able to make it. This last week I had my work computer crash, only 4 days after getting 3 new projects, all of which need to be done 1 week before the 1st of October...

figures... when it rains it pours

So.. take some good pics, I'll have to live vicariously through all of you...

What a bummer! Sad how life pops up and changes our plans for us.
Bodyflight, I hope things go smoother than you anticipate and you are able to make a quick trip to the fair NEXT weekend.
