Who's Hatching Ducks? Hatch With Us!! *Page 3*

Yeah, I don't know what happened there. I'm thinking it's from them being in with the quail eggs. I was told not to 'cross-contaminate' quail eggs with chicken eggs, so I would think that would go for other kinds of eggs as well.

18 of my Dutch Hookbill eggs due to hatch the 20th, will candle on Monday and post an update. I drew my own calendar on a blank sheet of paper with instructions on when to candle, start and stop turning, etc. and posted it over the incubator. I cross off each day as it passes, and a month is a long time!

I candled my first two lavender goose eggs today and BOTH are developing! Thank you CORANCHER!

Tomorrow I start turning Raindrop's and Shadyglade's pilgrims and the 4 lavenders I got from Ebay. That will be a HUGE group if they all hatch.

I found 4 call eggs in the pen this morning but it was so cold I figured I should just put them in bator ...LOL... so I can prevent any of you guys on my list from getting substandard eggs.

Now I have 11 call eggs in there...

Tomorrow the weather is going to warm up and I will start collecting calls for shipping. I should know something about fertility by Tuesday and maybe the first batch can go out.

I still have 15 white runners coming from Golden Egg Farm and 4 more lavender/blue eggs from Ebay. If anyone wants really NICE white runners, I highly recommend Kate at Golden Egg. I had 100% fertility with shipped eggs last year and I hatched out 5. Not bad for my first time.

After all that I'm done hatching - I'm gonna let my calls go broody after I send out my batches and then they can take care of everything.

My first hatch is 11 days away (buff goose and white runners) - what a long 11 days....then I have hatches like every few days, YAY!

Hatchety hatch hatch hatch...

I can't wait! You are the one with the white calls, right? You should send those cold eggs to me, and let me see if they are good!

OMG!!!! I've told you guys that I'm not sure how long silky duck eggs need to incubate, so this morning I couldn't resist and candled one of my eggs (day 24 today) and the duckie is pipped into the air cell!!!!

I almost fell over! I quickly and carefully put the egg back in, I could see the little ones head clearly in the air cell....moving around. So when might it pip? I've heard duck eggs take a while to hatch. So nervous now!

Good Morning, congrats on the little duck. But try not to open again until it hatches and is dry.Ducks are usually ready to hatch between 25-28 days. But if we open them too much, open the bator they could drown, and I don`t mean that ugly by no means.Because I love my little ducks.Look at what all I have got, lol. That tells you I got alot of them.Good luck, wish u well.It will get out sooner than you think.I got to stop turn on my one duck egg tomorrow. And it is looking good too,Hang in there, let meknow when it hatches,Ok.Sandra

I won't open it again, just a bit lost on my dates! So I take it you've hatched ducks before? This particular egg was rocking yesterday, I'm praying it might hatch before tomorrow night because I've got a 12 hour shift monday morning (I'm a nurse)and I want to see at least one hatch!

Congrats everyone!!! Can't wait to see more pics! I tossed the other runner eggs last night

all 9 of them. I candled and they all seemed to be full-term but dead. They had HUGE air cells but only one had pipped into it. Maybe they did drown from opening too much

I told DBF not to open it and leave the hatched ones in there but he didn't listen.

We're very pleased with the 6 we got though, and that's really plenty for us first-time quackers!
