Hen missing again, found missing hen again, she is hiding at the back of the chook house where they often lay eggs. Just thought i would take a look tonight, After nearly walkign into a spider

I notice hen is not on top of the chook house where they sleep.

Hens havent been out today. Hen must be around the back of the chook house. Hen must be sitting on eggs.

Bugger it, another broody hen.

Im going to have to take the eggs from this one and try and crack her, I cant have more eggs. Ive been avoiding collecting them because of the other broody. The rooster is a bit protective at the moment so ive been avoiding going in there. I will get them in the morning when she is off for breaky. I will just let them out then feed them on the inside after.

With the 9 incubated and 10 under the other broody hen, I cant do anymore chicks. That is more than enough for me.

Any other suggestions to break the broody?

I'm new to chicklets but I have a gaggle of geese and Miss Andrea goes broody every year

It is so hard to get her to stop!!! I hate for her to sit on the nest in the heat of our brutal summers!!! I usually start by making sure there are nooooo eggs - although one year I found three large rocks in there

- then I start tearing her nest apart every day. I really hate doing this she always looks so sad! Then when she's being real tuff I'll start shutting the coop door during the day until she finally stops!!! It's a battle - good luck

I pulled all the eggs out from under her, I think she got the message and hasnt been back on. Dont know what she thought she was doing sat on all those eggs silly chicken!

I'm at day 17 and getting anxious. I'll candle tomorrow or the next day and see how things are doing but it won't be long now. I'm helping a friend with this as she has had trouble hatching but so far the incubator has been fine. I hope I'm following the directions well enough to get a hatch. I have nine bantam eggs in there.

Today is day 18 for me. Of my 18-egg batch, I know of one dud for sure and two questionable eggs that I marked at day 10. Time to toss the ticking time bomb and check on the two question marks, then I can stop the turner. Here's hoping for a good hatch!

Ah, so that's what that gray stuff is. We always put up the waterer on a little platform (a small block of wood) so the bedding doesn't get in the water (but as long as they can still reach it).

We ended up picking out a Blue Spruce Christmas tree 2 nights ago. It's funny....my husband used to live in Denver, Colorado and it was the state tree so they never sold them as Christmas trees there. I think we like it because of the bluish color in the tree and it has sturdy but prickly branches. It supports the ornaments well. I'll post a pic of our tree in our website for you. You'll have to look for it (I'm not allowed to mention it on here). I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Good thing we moved to an old farm house with low ceilings. Before kids, we used to have a new house with vaulted ceilings and would sometimes spend too much on a tall, beautiful tree. Now, this year, the Christmas tree is in our children's play room. We take a family photo every year in front of our tree and send it out as Christmas cards to our friends and family.

Going to miss chatting with you on the "Who's hatching in Dec. thread !" Promise not to forget you, my hatching buddy in Australia ! (It's been so much fun chatting with you)
~Lisa
