Who's laying the dark brown egg that keeps getting darker??

If you dab different colors of food coloring around their vents, it'll color the next egg they lay, and that'll help you figure it out.
At least, I've read you can do that, I've never tried it.

I had a JG once that laid eggs that were so pale that they appeared to be white. Until they were sat right next to a true white egg you couldn't really tell that they were indeed tinted.

I know you can put lipstick back there too (but I would throw it away, don't reuse it), that does work.

The food coloring works too but you have to put a few drops in the vent, otherwise it just dries up around the vent.

Eww! Yes, I definitely wouldn't reuse that! It would be better if just cut a piece of the lipstick off then just rub it on her vent with a paper towel or something, that way you wont have to throw your lipstick away.

Or buy a cheap tube at the DollarTree to keep in your chicken supply box just for that purpose.

One day I am going to need to start a thread about about all the things I buy at dollar tree for my chickens. Lately I have been buying their Measuring Cups as small feed scoops and mixing bowls (they have handles) as large feed scoops. They have alls sorts of containers that can be screwed into the wall of a coop as a feeder too... $1 is a price I don't mind spending on things like that.

Hi everyone! I've been diligently watching the chickens the past few days. I seems that the brown chicken is indeed a Welsummer! We haven't found 2 white eggs ever since! I guess that was the end of the mystery haha

Its been a fun adventure! maybe, just maybe the leghorn laid 2 eggs in one day. Its very rare but if any breed can do that its a Leghorn.
