Who's Setting Eggs This Week[end]? [August 8-14]

I love my Brinsea Octagon 20 advance ex incubator. I get great hatches, even with shipped eggs IF the eggs came from healthy parent birds, were less than 5 days old when shipped, were properly stored while being collected and were packaged well! It is pretty tight to hatch more than 12 chicks at a time (holds 24 eggs) so I use my first incubator a Genesis 1588 for hatching the eggs. Works out pretty well that way

My last three hatches of shipped eggs, I had 8/10 and 8/12 bantam buff Brahma chicks hatch, but only 3 out of 9 porcelain d'Anver chicks hatch and one of the chicks had a thiamine deficiency (called star gazing) which means the parent bird was deficient in thiamine- vitamin B1. I could tell that the eggs were also old because when I put them into an Oxine dip (kills bacteria that might be on the egg) most of them floated!!

I've got the one they sell at Tractor supply. Its a little giant.

My temps seem stable now, I'll be looking into a brinsea for Christmas this year though. I just hate spending money on eggs only to lose them because of temp control issues.

What did you get?

I would like to join along. I just got 16 Bantam Wheaton Ameraucana eggs in the mail today. I will set them later tonight or tomorrow morning. My incubator is up and running. These eggs are so tiny! They are adorable. I really hope this is a great hatch! This will be my 6th hatch. I'm addicted.

The 1st egg is the bantam Ameraucana, white bantam Polish, and a store bought large egg.

So tiny and great color on the bantam Ameraucana egg!

Awesome. I wasn't sure if it was safe to dunk them in oxine first...I'll have to keep that in mind for the next hatch.

I looked into it, they only cover you if it is in result fraud by the buyer. It doesn't cover packages damaged by the post

Try filling through PayPal and not ebay. I have a website/business and delivered the product to the person. They filed a claim against me and even though I had proof of order and delivery I still ended up losing. Paypal sided with the buyer. The seller in your case is partially responsible because of the way she packaged them. I have a feeling that you would have had more broken eggs than good even if the post office did not bang up the box.

Oxine is GREAT stuff! I use it as a warm water egg dip (4 oz per gallon of water ) in the incubator water (7 drops per gallon of water) and the incubator hardly smells after a hatch!! and to clean (6 1/2 oz per gallon of water) the incubator, brooder and chicken houses. Love that stuff!

Good luck with your eggs! I felt so bad for you I wished I had Orpington eggs to send you!

Have a total of 5 french blue marans. 1 went broody and due to hatch 8-18. 2 went broody and due to hatch 8-20. Now the other 3 are trying to climb in the 2 broody hens nest. Thinking they might be going broody. Took my last 15 eggs I have been collecting the last couple of days and put it in the nesting box. Will see what happens. I also set 46 RIR in the bator last night. My dad brought them by. He has shut his bator down for the winter.
