Who's Setting Eggs This Week[end]? [August 8-14]

Yay!

Have you had any experience with the RIR? I almost got some but my friend told me that her parents had them and they were very aggressive? Any truth in that, or did they just have mean chickens?

I know the roosters can be very aggressive. I have dealt with aggression before so I do know what I am getting into. The woman I am getting the eggs from said Daddy Roo is very sweet and has never shown any aggressive signs. I am hoping that he passes that down...lol. Also, I will be handling the chicks often so hopefully they will not develop the nastiness. The hens are very good large egg layers which is why I wanted them.

I checked the hen house this morning... no egg

So it looks like I will be starting the eggs tomarrow.

Eeeek.

I just started the 12 hour process that is, recalibrating my digital thermometer/hygrometer.

I absolutely love this thing, but I was so impatient that I didn't want to wait 12 hours and calibrate it when I got it, so my temps may have been off.

I can't love this thing enough, if you want a good little hygrometer/thermometer, the Xikar digital hydrometer is the way to go :) I paid $25 for it at the local cigar shop but it's already paid itself off in accurate measurements [more accurate than the other crap thermometers I had in there before ] Lol.

I'm also cleaning the incubator, I had one Mille fleur d'Uccle egg that looked like it was going to hatch, but he's made no progress at all and I can't see anything candling him so I'm tossing the egg and hoping I wasn't wrong.

float it in water to seeif it wiggles..

I hate agressive roosters.

The 5 (6 tomarrow) blue/green eggs I am hatching are the last I am getting out of my rooster Fred before he goes down the road for being mean. I have two young boys (two years and ten months) and can not have an agressive rooster. He is beautiful, and makes cute babies but he has got to go.

Fred and my Ameraucana hen Peaches

One of the blue/gray olive eggers I got from my last hatch. I am trying to repeat this cross...Then Fred is gone.

If... she... weighs... the same as a duck,... she's made of wood. And therefor? A witch! A witch! I will have eggs by the 15th. Black Australorps and lavander orphingtons. so excited. cleared my schedule to stare in the bator for 21 days lol.

Anxiously awaiting my eggs....the delivery confirmation says both should arrive today. Last time i did a staggered hatch, and it was too complicated, so im planning to set everything at once. I had a horrible problem with shipping my first eggs. They were supposed to be here in 24 hours, but they took four days! One egg hatched, and I had 5 quitters from that bunch. So I'm kind of paranoid now...I ask if they can ship on Mondays and I wait around until they arrive.

Yeah, I rapidly got sucked into hatching. We have such fun with it, even though out of 3 dozen eggs we only got 9 chicks, and 5 of those were from local eggs, the rest shipped. However, out of the dozen local eggs, they had been laid at undetermined times and picked up and stuck in the fridge! I was shocked at any hatched after that treatment! Shipping is so hard on eggs that if I get 6 out of the two dozen coming, I will be happy.

We just moved to this house like last week (!) so I set the bator up in the dining room and turned it on yesterday. It's a great temp and humidity. 100 degrees and 30% humidity. So it's ready to go whenever they get here. I plan to set them in the bator but turn the turner off for the first day.

I did a dry hatch last time and wonder if I shrink wrapped them, so I'm going to pay a bit more attention to the RH and maybe add a bit of water at day 18 and then be more careful with it.

Humidity should be at 45%-55% for days 1-18 I thought?
