Who's Setting Eggs This Week[end]? [August 8-14]

I have whatever cheap bator they sell at TSC and it has the little water rings in it. I just keep those full and the humidity stays between 30-45 at lock down I wet a sponge and that pulls the humidity right up to 70-75.

I've learned not to mess with them over the course of 2 hatches. The first hatch I candled daily and moved eggs, this last hatch I pretty much left them alone and had better success. lol I'm a worrier by nature so it's hard for me to set them and forget them!

I don't want to jinx it but I've had fantastic sellers, my eggs have all arrived in fantastic condition and in a timely fashion [I lay some of the blame on my wonderful mailwoman though!] I've heard so many horror stories about postpeople kicking and trampling boxes and I'm very fortunate to have a great set of people at our post office....If my English Orps get here in the same condition as the last 2 sets, I'll be getting her a HUGE Christmas bonus this year! lol

I was asking about The bator cause I just ordered a Genesis Hovabator 1588. i was hoping that your Trouble maker isn't one That I ordered... I am hoping it gets here soon tho..I already Started this batch And would love To finish them in The Hovabator Genesis 1588.

I was doing a staggered hatch, but my game hen is broody Now so i gave her the first Set of eggs.
they were shipped Eggs with 2 having loose aircells. I will have to candle in a week to check the status.

Read this about dry hatching. I hung out on a thread last hatch with some experienced hatchets who said it works very well. I thought the RH had to be higher, but apparently not.

I just read the thread it was GREAT!! It said to get your bator to 50% humidity. Where are you seeing 30%. I am setting eggs this weekend and wanted to change some things from my first hatch and the thread confirmed what I want to change this time around.

So, I've been waiting all morning for the post to arrive [for some reason I thought I could will the eggs to get here a day after they were shipped!] No such luck though!

Hopefully they'll be here tomorrow or Friday. I think they're coming from Ohio, and that's not that far away :D My first batch made it from WA state in 2 days so I'm hoping this set comes just as fast.

I'm so antsy to get something back in the bator!

I started 44 eggs from my flock Monday and will be getting 30 RIRs from my dad today and will put them in tomorrow after they settle. Good luck hatching everyone. Hoping for a better hatch rate this time around. I lined my racks with liners to keep them from rolling and to keep the rack clean. I am turning my own eggs. Do they do better in an egg carton or without? I thought about using an egg carton on the RIRs. Any suggestions?

I had been wondering the same thing! I use an egg turner for the first 18 days and then lay them flat so they can settle, but I'm thinking about using an egg carton with this next batch.

Thanks for reminding me! I have to run to the 1$ store and get some liner myself!

I need something to occupy the time until my eggs get here! So I ran to walmart and got some canvas fabric and I'm going to attempt to make chicken saddles for my girls :)

the reason I do the carton is to help my eggs with the busted or saddle shaped aircells. I would think that the eggs you get locally would do better on the side. Today I gave my broody 5 shipped eggs that are a week old and started veining. I had 2 with saddle shaped aircells. I am going to see if it makes any difference or not to leave them sit up or lay down.
