Who's Setting Eggs This Week[end]? [August 8-14]

**Just FYI for all those hopeful souls out there.**
I just had a chick hatch last night on day 20 -
Unassisted, and the odds were definitely stacked against her.

You can NOT believe what this egg went through.

A huge tree fell in our neighborhood on day 10 and took all the power with it. 9:30 am Bator = 77 degrees.
My car was trapped by downed power lines, and I couldn't get my bator out to plug it in elsewhere.

BIG MISTAKE: I thought-- oh it's nice and warm, I'll put the bator outside in the sun. Noon Bator = 130 degrees. Yikes!! Put bator inside, candled 2 eggs and they were cooked for sure. I just left the bator alone.
Later, when my car was finally accessible, I put the bator in the car and drove around like a crazy chicken lady. Trying desperately to figure out where I could plug in this darn thing... with my 3 yr old along for the ride. Sheesh! The eggs were rolling/scooting all around in their holders. I was losing my mind.
I finally came home and tried to admit defeat. The power came back on at about 7pm and I slowly walked out to the car and brought the bator in. I didn't have the heart to toss them, so I just plugged them in without adjusting anything, like nothing was wrong. This is a table top Styrofoam bator with 10 eggs that were all very much alive the day before.
In the morning, I guess I needed to know, so I decided to candle. I started from the other end of the line (#10) and guess what?! Yep! Movement! This is actually the egg that hatched last night! Don't lose hope! Anythings possible!! I candled all the others and 2 more had movement! I kept them all in just in case, and today is day 21 and I'm hopeful for a buddy (or 2) for my one lonely miracle baby. But I am SO grateful for this one little blond chickie. She is *just* a barnyard mix, but she is so special-- such a survivor! She hatched so strong- I can't tell you what a miracle she is.

Simply Amazing. Please don't lose hope. And Good Luck to us all.

I had my husband cull Summi this morning :( Her feet were deformed [way too small and curled under]

I'm so sad to have lost her.

Aww! I'm so sorry to here this sad news,

Although it is terribly sad when something like this happens I guess we have to think about what would happen if it were left to mother nature. Nature can seem very cruel but it's survival of the fittest for a reason.
Don't beat yourself up about this little one, you tried your best and I know I would have done the same thing in that situation.
