Who's Setting Eggs This Week[end]? [August 8-14]

I set 11,Welsummer E-bay eggs on Aug 8.
Haven't candled them yet, prob this weekend.
First time with eggs in the mail.
Fingers crossed.

I candled mine last night with a new brighter flashlight, complements of my teenage son.

I can see veins before day 10 on brown eggs

.

I did notice that 2 eggs, the air sac moved around and there was also bubbles. First for me...so does that mean they will not make it?
One of my eggs looked like that too. Yo took the question right out of my mouth lol

I'm sorry

but it is unlikely the ones with floating air bubbles will grow. In my experience anyway.

It is so much fun to have a bright light to candle brown eggs isn't it?

I have a Brinsea high intensity candler and I can even see into Marans eggs! Too bad they stopped making that model because they are great!

Some of the eggs are dark then the others and the 2 with air bubbles are, of course, the darker ones. So it is harder to see veining, I think I'll leave them in the incubator a little longer just to make sure. Thank you for the info. I went ahead and marked them.

I was surprise that my son's $5 led flashlight was strong/brighter than my MagLite. But it is so nice to finally see in the eggs.

Ok guys listen listen listen.. My husband bought me a thin flashlight today and OMG I have never been able to see through a brown egg before like I did with this one!! he got it from the snap on truck. its called a streamlight stylus pro. It was twenty something bucks but WELL worth the money if you are candling eggs. I see things in the eggs I have never seen before. and the white eggs the light shines out the other side!!

I had a broody bantam buff cochin due to hatch out yesterday. She was sitting on 6 eggs. Out of the 6 eggs she broke one, two were rotten, one hatched and one that died in the shell. Been keeping a check on her today. The one that hatched was a french black copper maran. She got off the nest and deserted it and it died. If I have anymore hatch from broody hens I will take them away right after they hatch and put them under my heat lamp in my brooder. I have 2 french blue copper marans sitting on eggs due to hatch Sunday and Tuesday. Will keep a close eye on them incase they hatch early.

This is so sad! I wouldn't give up on the broodys, though. I am a big fan, as I don't have to keep my chicks in the house! My broods deal with all the temperature issues outside, fluffing up and sitting on them when they get cold. Much less work for us.

I like that one!

I paid $25 for mine at walmart [in the camping section] it had the most lumens that I could find...and it works really well, I'll flag down the snap-on truck if I see it though!
