Who's Setting Eggs This Week[end]? [August 8-14]

I have seen a live egg with a blood ring, It drove me crazy and eventually died.

Don't know if it had anything to do with it or not, but it happened when my thermometer was messed up and my temp was to low. If you have a second thermometer you may want to double check your temp.

I actually have 3 thermometers in there and have calibrated them all. The temp. is a steady 99.5. One of the thermometer's even gives me a high/ low for the last 24 hours.

just chiming in. I set some on the 11th and 12th

some icelandic's that are from my own.
plus some olive eggers and easter eggers that are with my icelandic rooster as well.
Mostly seeing if my incubator is working good before I order more pricy penedesenca eggs.

Brookhavens, wow! Awesome picture! I would think that one is done. But unless they are obviously clear at lockdown, OR they stink, I keep them.

Eggs in the BRA?! Too stinking funny.

Cooper, welcome! And very cool selection of birds ou have. Now do you separate out the breeds in different areas?

I did a dry hatch last month, the eggs were for a friend and she wanted no water added until day 18. The humidity dropped really low, in the teens and the chicks hatched out very sticky. I'm not sure if the humidity is why they were so sticky. This hatch I'm adding water when it drops below 25. 9 more days and we'll see!!

And this is why I set up the 'bator down in the basement.
It is too easy to candle and handle anywhere else.
I candle at 11 days and right before lockdown.
In nature, temps and humidity go up and down within an acceptable range. Let it be.
Let heat and humidity do their thing and it really will be fine.
Get the brooder ready.

Unless there is a smell, I leave all eggs in until day 18 (even the clear ones). I noticed that my temp and humidity are effected by the number of eggs and if I remove the undeveloped or quitters, I have to readjust the settings.

Hey everyone! Sorry I've been MIA, I've had company all week and had to spend my days occupying rather than on chickens :)

I candled last night [my first batch of eggs] and I've got 7 total eggs left after I cleared the incubator. All of my Orps were clear, but all 4 of the SLW have wiggly babies in them.

If they all make it to lock down, I'll have:
4 SLW
1 English Orp [slow starter I guess!! I was thrilled when I saw veins!]
2 Brahma

I'm waiting on my replacement incubator to get here monday and I'll set all 7 of my new English Orp eggs in there. I set them in the old incubator for now, and I'll transfer them over when they get here....

Hope everyone else is having a good weekend :)
