Make sure the temp in your house is also at a set temp. I have a Styrofoam also. Even a 2 degree change will effect the temp in the incubator.

This is Jamesh1942 again just found where Roxannemc wrote me, I'am setting my own eggs red hens not sure what they are called thought the were Road Island reds but now after being on line some don't know but they lay good. I've only got six hens and the roaster. Don't realy thank I'll have much luck this frist time out but going to keep at it until I get it. Thanks for writing me back I would sure like to hear any thing any one has to say. Jim

To JD Chicks, I have them in a building out back but it stays about the same in there but guess I'll have to do better next time. Oh well live and learn. Jim

Hatch day -21......1 chicks trying to get out stil... large hole now and .9... have hatched since yesterday .UN -believable!! It is still day 21 and only noon here so who knows, might get 100% Well 3 were duds early on. Here is the crew minus 1.(Whoops missed one guy on;y got his back!) or who knows maybe 2 will hatch still!!!Still hope..5 are sold..Hey! anyone want some show stock Light Brahmas?

First one actually looks like a breaded showgirl.

Second pip has made some improvements. And 2 additional pips.

They really don't want me to watch.

They really are totally shy !!!

Ok JIm its in a shed... but maybe you can put a BIG card board box around it ?But if it gets hot in the shed in day time thats not good b/c you cant do a thing about that and it will raise your temp.Do you have a basement you could put it in?
Set the thermometer a little lower if it is vary s up to 103 .See If you get it settled down some and not to go over 101 tops. The temp is really the most important thing early on I think. I may be wrong though.
Humidity may be more than i think but some ppl have that at 30 and others at 50 and they all get hatches so to my way of thinking it may not be critical too much to get it right on like the temp is ... until the last 4 days anyway..

have two crele bantams setting now they make great incubators I have close to 95% hatch rate.
Hopefully ill be adding another 24 to the flock.

Hey Roxannemc, Thank for information I can sure use it. Its a building not a shed and it stays about the same, I tryed putting something over them but it didn't seem to help. Do you thank 103 hurt them didn't stay up very long but it swings down to 96 is that way too low? Jim
