This is jamesh1942, I'am useing a still air foam type
ok this guy is on BYC (rebelcowboysnb) and he has great information on his site. Most of what I do is from what he explained... Read this page and it will explain the dynamics of a still air incubator... the actual physics of it.

I recommend you not open it so much and take the temp reading at egg level and put it in a laundry room or closet or something without a draft or morning/Night temp fluctuations.
Also add a LOT of heat sinks (tightly lidded glass jars of water or laying bricks) to help keep the temp stable. Will also return the bator back to the right temperature faster after it is opened. If you are like we all are on this thread.. you might be candling a bit OFTEN...lol

I take my temp readings from the INSIDE of an egg (water wiggler <---toy or a baggy with water in it closed tight with a fish aquarium thermometer in it)... it is the actual temp you need to be most concerned with.
Please read the BYC Learning Center under Incubation on Still Air incubator.
Also there are several threads on here that trouble shoot The Still Air (Little Giant LG )... but even if that is not the brand you are using..it is still good information.
OH AND WELCOME!!!!
