Who's Setting Eggs This Week[end]? [August 8-14]

Ok i could not stand it so i helped! The 2 i have pipped are the only ones alive from the eggs so i think i may have again killed them when i opened the bater to get the one out yesterday with the broken yolk sac sigh..... so i helped out the ones that were zipped and they were ready for sure just stuck not sticky but just a little shrink wrapped i guess i wet them with warm water and a q-tip and got them out and they are very alive just laying on their backs is this ok???? Will they be ok or retarded? I have a feeling i may need to help the other 2 at this point as well one has been pipped since yesterday and the other pipped over night. I may leave the one that pipped over night and just open the pip a little more then up the humidity and hope it comes out on its own. What do you all think of my plan?

They are just tired. Just give them time to rest.

I think its a good plan.

Well i got the other one with just the pip out and she was ready so she is under the heat lamp. The ones i took out earlier that were laying on their backs are sitting up now but their toes won't straighten out but at least they are up right instead of on their backs. Will the feet work themselves out? the one that pipped over night i left in the egg and in the incubator i did open the hole up more and it's peeping a lot so it's ok for now i did not touch the membrane but did wet it with the q-tip and but it back in so it can hatch out on it's own just in case it's not absorbed the yolk yet i also left a wet paper towel on it. So far 6 alive so better than nothing i suppose.

This will probably make some people mad...

Apparently my humidity went to low during incubation at some point, cause mine were shrink wrapped.

Any ways, after the fourth and fifth had trouble hatching, I helped and then I went ahead and opened the eggs that did not pip. 2 were internally pipped and 1 not.

I am not saying this will work, recommended or whether I just got lucky. I knew that there was a problem...shrink wrapped.

One internal pip was upside down and already dead, the other two were Gluttony and Sloth. Gluttony had a bloated stomach, I am guessing she swallowed her fluid since she had not internal pipped but was trying to move and was cheeping. once I got her membrane damp she pipped and was out in less than 2 hours. Sloth took forever it seemed. She was in no hurry and laid there with half a shell. I was worried that she hadn't absorbed the yolk, so left her be with the occasionally shining flashlight to get a reaction. Several hours later, she was out. She is still sleepy but eating, drinking and interacting with the others. Gluttony's is doing well also, the bloating has gone down and eating, drinking and interacting with the others.

AGAIN, I am not saying this will work, recommended or whether I just got lucky, but I was sick with worry.
Glad it all worked out Each time a learning experience .Everyone has to see what the humidity should be in your home and area.We are all different. Some almost no water ...One lady said she never adds water and get many ...others use a lot.80% works for them at hatch...Now you know next time a little higher.
I dont know what you ran yours at but i had that too at 60-65 shrink wrap. Now use 70-75 and no problems for my house got it right.Glad they all came out ok.

The staggered hatch is always the worst. 4 or 5 hatch then get fluffy and the next day others are trying to hatch then you have to take the fluffy ones out. that is always my biggest dilema

The last baby 2 days old seems ok but wobbly and weak.He can stand and walk fine but seems to get tired easy and lays down to sleep also seems to breath heavy.Maybe his heart or lungs The problem is he wont eat or drink He will swallow if food or water is in his mouth but wont try to eat just peeps.and i cant get much in himI add water and vitamins to it.Any ideas? My others that were asist did eat if you put it to their mouthNot this guy.
Well he seemed to be standing up pretty well so i put him in with the others. They tried to pick on him and i chased them away He is standing as tall as he can and even watched them peck food and pecked once.so Gues he will be ok. ..Hes not in with the IN crowd yet but trying to not be an outcast.
Reminds me so much of the kid the first day of school ...all the bullies.Poor guy but better than all alone like poor Harley is with a mirror for his only friend

I have 3 due to hatch in 3 days...I hope they hatch. My last batch of 7...6 died in shell...when I eggtopsied, there was a lot of liquid in there. i ran the lock down at 65 percent humidity... so i think it was too humid. So these 3 I am going to do it dry. I have 47 percent humidity in there. I have a bad feeling that it is too low. ugg..
Yeah its hard to figure out whats right on this. trial and error. Yours must be too high if you have liquid!! Dry hatch was bad for me now i do 70-75 try and stay inthe very middle of what ppl say do HAHa Well it has worked for me so far.

I think you can change it to a little higher and still be ok since you have 3 days to go.YOu just raised it . Maybe 55?.47 does seem a little low.
Dont know if i have heard someone do it that low but maybe there is.

It is scarey to do...my last i had quite a few hatch and boy were they rolling the eggs all over and lots were pipped too. .Someone told me as long as the humidity is high, bring it way up first to like 78...(if you are running 70-76 like i do.) take them out.
I think one didnt hatch b/c they turned him over.
He was dead after he pipped a big pip and was face down.I didnt even know that one had tryed to pip at all or i would have turned it over.
I do take them out FAST and then look at the humdiity right away if i have had it high it never goes under 70.Even this time and i had 5 to take out,
Guess i could have stagger them too .Take one out and wait but it was fine anyway.Everyone in lockdown hatched well 10 except for the one dead rolled pipped guy.One guy was a little late but no assists.

Ok guys it seems like everyone does alot of hatching in here, so how do you guys introduce your chicks to your other chickens once they are old enough? I have always had bad luck with that unless they were hatched by a broody in the same pin.
