Who's Setting Eggs This Week[end]? [August 8-14]

Ok...

3 Orps hatched.

They were supposed to be BBS!

One is blue, one is splash, and the third is all whitish/cream colored!!! What gives???

Maybe they were BSS... blue, Splash, SURPRISE! Uh, I would call the breeder, maybe they have a pen jumping roo. Or maybe you were sent some extra of another breed, or color.

i had a lone chick too. A week later I had 2 more chicks hatch. I put them together and let the older chick show the new babies how to eat and drink. They now think it is their mommy! well, at first they got their feet pecked and DRAGGGED so bad... but after 1 day and 1 night, it was all peaceful in the brooder box. I was so worried that the older chick was going to harm them. Since they were still so wobbly and weak. They slept most of that first pecking day. Now they all get along.

I have sad news! out of the six of mine that hatched only the 2 that self hatched are still alive

Hey, don't feel bad.
I had a terrible hatch last month as well. Out of 17 eggs received, 11 were unbroken.
Of those 11, only two were viable.
Of those 2, only one hatched, with assistance.
That one only lasted one week.
Eggs by mail, I just don't know if that is really a good idea.
So, you aren't the only one, if that helps.

I helped 2 out of my first hatch too. The first one made it and is leader of the pack now. The second one hatched with a hernia and yes it is disgusting but it is better to cull them than watch them die a slow death.
