Who's setting with me Sept 1st-4th?

I candled my eggs today, day 4. One of them has a noticeable red dot in it. I'm hoping it's a heart and not just a spot of blood. None of them have any veins that I can see. usually by now there are some showing up :( has me worried that none of the eggs are going to be viable. They are still in the incubator, waiting til day 10 before tossing any of them.

Sweetlilbaby, I did that last time and I thought 1/2 my eggs were goners. I left them in and they did develop, some are more noticeable then others. I hope in a few days you see improvement.

This time the first two I candled had nothing and the next 2 had little red specks at day 3. I'm not candling again until day 7 and I did not candle all of them.

My darkest blue eggs have a thick membrane or too dark of shell and I will never see through those.

ut oh... Looks like the neighbors are getting a power pole put in... (they have lived off of generators for about 2 years now)..... Which means the power will go out when they go to hook their power lines up!! what do I do??? my eggs are developing so well :( How do I keep the incubator warm????

Wish I could help you, but I have no idea what I would do in that situation. Hopefully it won't be long, and everything will be ok. Maybe you could have a chat with the power company? I bet they would be pretty understanding, just explain what is going on, and maybe they will try and hurry the hookup process when they get to that? Good luck, I hope everything works out!!

They put the pole is and left. I guess they will come back late to install the wiring.. I have researched a little and have found putting a hot bottle in the incubator and covering with a blanket does good. So I went through the kitchen and found mason jars/glass jars and will put one jar in the incubator and put the bigger gallon jar by the incubator and wrap the blanket all around. Praying they work diligently and get their work done quickly... I think we will be ok. a few months ago the hooked power up to the cabin further down the street and it took about 2 hours... Hope it's no longer than that! I'll give the power company a call and see how long in will actually be.

A heating pad will work!

I have heating pads that I can put damp rags under for moisture.

Good luck and I hope your power is back on!

Duh, the power is off.

Do you know someone close that you can plug the incubator in?

The water bottles will hopefully work. I do hope your power is on soon!

I've used the warm water bottles in the past as well as covering the incubator with a blanket. It didn't help too much, but it did help. Hopefully it won't be more than a couple of hours and your eggs will be fine. Mine have survived some crazy poweroutages, including chicks hatching during one that lasted 8 hours. Also if it gives you hope, I once had a 15 day old embryo survive 3 days at room tempature on the kitchen table. And I'm not kidding, It didn't develope during those days, but it survived. By the way, it's a long story about how that egg got in that position.

lol it hasn't gone off yet. Called the power company but they didn't answer. will call again in a little bit... along with the incubator I'm trying to work on my classes (all online this semester) so it's important I know these things (they are supposed to give you a call as a heads up but never do :/).

I candled today. Maybe 6 of the 12 are doing okay for now. I'm undecided on 2 since I can't see real well. 4 are doing very well so far. 3 have blood rings and 3 never started. How frustrating! Next spring I'm starting over, but buying straight from the breeders. I know this is not my fault in the dead/non developing eggs. I'm keeping them in there for 2 more days. Nothing smells bad yet.

Maybe this is a good thing since I'm hatching at an odd time of year.:/

I just checked the blood ring ones, it looks like only 2. I'm unsure if I'll have a 3rd.
