Who's setting with me Sept 1st-4th?

Go into lockdown on the 18th day at the same time you set them, so if you set them at 6:00 am on the first, then go into lockdown at 6:00 am on the 19th, but it shouldn't matter too much. I personally would stick with the day 18 even though they started hatching early last time, going into lockdown gives them a 3 day window on both sides to pip with the high humidity. But do whatever you feel is right.

You can have external pips, and internal pips. Pip is bascically just breaking through. An internal pip is when the chick breaks thorugh the membrane into the air sac. And an external pip is when the chick breaks through the shell. It will look like a small series of cracks in one area.

I candled my eggs yesterday! All have veins showing to the air sac. I'm hoping they hatch! Lockdown is TOMORROW!!!!

WOOT!

Anyone else excited? My husband wants me to hatch another batch right away, but we'll see. It's the wrong season. Although rehoming at this time with the ones I'm not keeping has been going very smoothly! I accidentally kept 2 of them that have color faults. They will probably stay anyway due to their calmness and awesome personality! I'm still looking for those perfect show quality Ameraucana's. :D

I usually end up keeping some everythime. "Don't worry, I will sell them all." OH but these 2 are different, they are just too sweet. hahaha But obviously all of these Silver Laced Cochins this round are here to stay. I keep thinking of these eggs, I should get my replacements sometime this week but how should I handle it? Mine aren't due to hatch until the 26th. I had a hen go broody at the same time I set, so I was just going to put the eggs under her to hatch when the new eggs come. But, I want to vaccinate these new chicks, so I don't want to risk them being exposed on the first day. All my hens appear healthy, I guess I just get worried..

Do any of you guys vaccinate your chicks for anything? I'm am just now thinking about it since I will be showing, I don't want to introduce diseases to my flock. I haven't had a problem with disease in the past but if they will be leaving my farm, I imagine they can be exposed from other chickens. There are just so many different vaccinations out there, and I sure can't afford them all.

My nine remaining Silkie eggs are still looking great....My lockdown date will be Thurs. (20th). Haven't touched the incubator since I candled them on Sunday. Will take off the turner and bump up the humidity Thurs. evening.

I for one have never vaccinated my chickens, but after losing my only Silkie at 10 mths of age....I am going to build a separate house/pen nearer to my house for my Silkies and Sizzles. Those will definitely get vaccinated.
