Who's setting with me Sept 1st-4th?

Woo hoo I'm so excited for lock down this (just glanced at the clock to see it's 12:30!) afternoon! Candling one last time in the morning after it warms up a bit (47 for the low tonight! Loving the cooler temps) ;)

I hope everyone's hatch is a good one! This is my first so I'm sure I'll be extra glued to my incubator windows haha. Heck I'm even working hard to get all my college work done before hatch day so I don't have other obligations.

Happy hatching to us early ones. I know some of you have a while yet before lockdown.:(

Mine are still alive, but 2 air cells are still on the smaller side and I've done a dry incubation at 30%. I hope they make it.

I'm locking down after my kids are off to school. I need to set up my brooder with a wire barrier, so the other three do not pick on any new hatchlings. I have a nice big brooder for this.:)

I might just order one more pack of hatching eggs from the seller that will charge only shipping that gave me bad eggs, my husband wants me to try.

Chochins, I am still researching the issues about vaccinating....not really sure where to start. So much confusing material out there to sort through!

Happy lockdown day to Noncentzer, animalroc4evr, and Nicole01. It never gets old, so exciting each and every time!

I had put my EE eggs in on the 26th of August. Well, we had work detail at the deer camp last weekend, and I miscalculated my lockdown date, which was the day before we left. (Three different incubators going....gets kinda confusing when using the same calendar to mark my dates.

) Anyway, as soon as we got home Sunday I bumped up the humidity and crossed my fingers. (That was day 21, btw) I figured I would leave them in all week, just to see. Well guys------Out of 16 eggs, 1 hatched this morning and I have 4 more with external pips!!!!!!

This is day 24-----amazing, huh?? I will definitely hang a separate calendar over EACH incubator next time I have more than one going! What if I had messed up with my Silkie eggs like that?? Scary just thinking about it.

Yes, I have a thread going where I'm learning new stuff and I have been researching like crazy, I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I feel like I shoud, but I don't know. And what should I vaccinate for? YAY!!! for the pips!

I don't go into lock down until Monday.

I'm raising humidity as we speak! I candled and it looks like everyone is fine (including my very active double yolker!). OH and I thought I saw a beak in the air cell of one of the eggs, could a chick already be internally pipping????

I was reading that when the chicks hatch they tend to make all the other eggs roll around an get into trouble, so below is my set up for hatching, do they have enough room??? I hope so.... what do y'all think? baskets ok? Or should I just let them roll each other around??? this is my first hatch so I don't know what to do!

I left my double yolk out of the basket set up and in the very front corner so that I can reach in a turn VERY quickly (it's 2 days behind the others....) They are doing awesome, moving around a lot in their little room together! one is bigger than the other so we will see what happens...

(the humidity is going up, this was before I added more water)

Lesalynn - Here the link to the thread, I started out just asking about Mareks disease, I've gotten most of my information from old threads and google, but there is some good stuff. I also added a poll to it in which more people say the mareks is a very important vaccine. The second link is a nice site I found that lists the vaccines for poultry, I see all the ones except the coryza (or something like that) it's very helpful to get you started.

And animalsroc4ever - where did you get those baskets? I was thinking of using egg cartons, but those are such a good idea, maybe I can get them this weekend before lockdown. I have had chicks die in their shells from being too disorientated from other eggs and chicks rolling them around. Usually by the end of day 21, everyone of the eggs in the incubator are crammed on one side with a couple early chicks running around. If you can keep a stable tempature, then don't take them out, those seem perfect, and Good Luck with your double yolker!!
