Who's setting with me Sept 1st-4th?

Yay! I'm so very anxious on mine... And I am buying yet another batch of eggs from the same seller, this time a 24+ order. I'm also trying to find some local eggs to play around with as far as finding a way to watch them develop, I will probably go with silkies.

Well, I ended up with 5 LF layers---assorted, and 2 bantam chicks from the one incubator.
And now, the Silkies----

The last time I candled them, I outlined the air sac on each egg just in case I needed to help them. Good thing I did that, it came in real handy. 3 of them had pipped Saturday, but still hadn't hatched this morning. So, I made up my mind I would intervene....too much money invested in these eggs. Well, I was too late for 6, they drowned. Another three had died in the last week, apparently. I was able to save 11 of them. 2 are weak and may not make it but the other 9 look strong. If I had not intervened, I don't think any would have hatched. Almost every one of them had pipped down towards the bottom of the egg, which is why some drowned. I was really careful with humidity this time, but their air sacs were still too large...they couldn't move around to pip towards the right end.

I will post pics soon as I can get pics after they dry up and look pretty, lol.

Cochins--

I ordered 24+ more Silkie eggs from the same person this last batch came from, and I claimed 6+ partridge/blue partridge eggs from the
Paypal/Hatching Eggs Swap. I guess we'll just have to keep them incubators running, huh?? lol

Yes we will, but my seller said her birds are currently molting and she is only getting an egg a day from the pens that I what eggs from. She said she would contact me when she starts getting more eggs. So what should I do, I'm so tempted to get those silkie eggs and leave the incubator going, but I should probably clean it up and put it away until she emails me again. hmmm... It is getting really close to winter...

I haven't had an egg in 4 days from my 12 hens that are currently laying. Some are molting and it's been about 45 degrees here! They always stop during the winter, as I don't have any very productive breeds.

ummm.. my hatch. 4 went into lockdown. 1 hatched on it's own. 1 hatched with some help. 1 died in the shell, and the last one, I was literaly 2 minutes short from saving it, I felt so bad. If I would have helped it 2 mintues sooner, it probably would have made it but it either drowned or suffocated before I did. 2 stupid minutes... so I only have 2 chicks but they are adorable and I love them.

Ohh I love hatching chicks so much, I would love to have a incubator full right now, but won't be getting my eggs until later.

I know what you mean. All my birds are molting right now, even my quail. I have almost 50 laying hens, and only getting 5 or 6 eggs a day, if that many. I have 30 quail, and haven't gotten even one egg from them in over a month. I've had quail for the past 4 years, and they have never gone this long without laying. Don't know what's up....

Too bad your breeders birds are molting right now. I sure hope you can get those eggs soon. I have been known to incubate all winter, lol. I've been building up my arsenal on heat lamps....I buy at least a few a year. I have a small brooder on my porch where I put the new hatches, and a large brooder next to the barn where I put them after a couple weeks....works pretty good. Haven't lost any yet. I will prbly keep running it as long a I can afford the eggs, lol.

I need more Silkies!!

Thank you Cochins! He really is sweet. I just put 4 more with him. Hopefully I can get pics of them over the weekend. I think I have around 50 Silkie eggs in the bator now, with a dozen or more coming next week! :D
