Why All The "Junk"?

I looked and I looked at your page and I see no junk. I see a nicely maintained and well done coop and pretty yard.
I even saw chickens. I still did not see junk.
Maybe I need to look more.

Well I have to admit, I had to buy the material for the coop and buy the run. Our ground is very rocky, we live on the edge of the Chattahoochee National Forest and its very rocky/dry. We did use to farm gates for the top of the run. I agree with recycle, you should see my first coop, all reused items.

Personally I feel that trees look better standing in a forest then cut up and sold for my coop. I spent maybe a total of $40 on my coop and run, while it's not the prettiest it functions great and I made it with my own two hands.

I totally feel the pressure of the "keep up with the Jones" affect that is why I am so proud when I can say oh this was built from free pallets w or this all was recycled from this or that or my duck pond is a corner tub I bought at auction for a dollar. I think It is great to hear about all the wonderful deals that are out there and what the fokes on this site can do with so very little cost. Instead of oh this is my coop it is from a kit and was $300+ I mean if you are not that handy and that is your thing I don't begrudge any a bit. But you have to admit it is amazing what some fokes can do with other peoples trash!

I think I have to thank Uncle Mark for starting this thread - got a lot of peoples dander up but thats whats keeping them posting all these good ideas in one spot for me to find - so Thanks Uncle Mark!

Some folks have chickens bc they cant afford to buy eggs. Some have better lives than others. Some have more money than others and then there are some arrogant enough to flaunt what they have and say keep up with me instead of enjoying it for what it is a hobby or for daily food on the table.

Some just like to make fun of others less fortunate.

I think Uncle Mark has been misunderstood. He asked if there were reasons other than frugality and resourcefulness to reuse materials. I do not believe there was a negative tone to his question. So, either I am failing to be offended when I should be or a new member has been attacked for no reason.

It just sounds like curiosity to me.
Being frugal I get. Being resourceful I get. But is there some other reason so many coop projects proudly tout the use of used, re-cycled or free materials?

Yeah, X2

I've been watching this thread off & on all day. I'm amazed that a simple question, resulted in so many attacks.
