Why are my Chickens not laying eggs?

Lavender orpingtons aren't known for their laying ability - more for their beauty. They lay here and there occasionally, when there's a blue moon & they decide they feel like it lol I had one go for eight months or more without laying & she's perfectly healthy and gorgeous. They also take longer to mature. If you want eggs coming on a regular basis, add some other breeds to your flock There's tons of gorgeous breeds that will lay all the time.

I have a quick question. Its my first time raising chickens so maybe I am doing something wrong.

My hens are going on 2 years old and I still have not had them lay one egg. They have access to grit and oyster shells as well as being on a diet that is suppose to aid in egg laying but I still have no eggs. My Buff Orpington was in the nesting box yesterday acting broody but there was no egg under her. What am I doing wrong?

I'll get some recent pictures when I get home. What is a pelvis check? Is this something I should be doing?

We saw 2 hugh nest of eggs under a storage building after it was moved. Chickens love to hid their nest. If you have hens that do lay eggs most every day in the summer. Either you have roosters instead of hens or something is getting the eggs before you get to them or they are hiding their nest.

They don't look anywhere near POL. I'm honestly really confused as to what could be going on. @Overo Mare, do you have any idea what might cause this?

Maybe you have an egg eater in the bunch? Or if they free range, maybe they are laying somewhere outside??

So the picture that you posted is the bird at approximately 1 year old? Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like that bird may not have hit maturity for some reason. Usually you end up with a decent amount of redness in comb and wattle by the time they hit maturity.

As for the pelvis check, never done it myself, but we have a pretty good article here for that:

Hmmm, they could have a hidden nest or they eat their eggs. Or you have duds, some hens don't lay. Did you get them all from the same place? It could be genetic.

Not likely that ALL of them aren't laying.They may need to be wormed .
